Default yet another airbag light issue....

i've researched through all of the threads on this issue. bert is my 03 NBC and my error codes are 591 and 592. i've noticed that many posters talk about diy repairs versus dealer repairs for this... but this is my question...

i know the codes, but i don't want to go to the dealership and i haven't the skills for auto repair. my mechanic who diagnosed the problem can't fix it. what are my alternatives? are there mechanics who specialize in this type of work, and if so, what do i look for/how do i find them? i am in chicago, il.

thanks so much. i often lurk, but rarely post. this forum has been an INVALUABLE tool for me!

I'm thinking a trip to the dealer might be in order to see if your NB is included:

SAFETY RECALL 69H1/R6. 2003-2005 NEW BEETLE CONVERTIBLE AND 2004-2005 NEW BEETLE. INSPECT AND REPLACE AIRBAG FRONTAL CRASH SENSOR ON VEHICLES WITH ADVANCED (DUAL-STAGE) FRONT AIRBAG SYSTEM.

Good luck and where in Chicago are you at???
