Default I think I need to charge my AC.

It started getting hot around here for the first time since October. I've noticed my AC isn't blowing out cold air. I've never re-charged an AC, but I figure that's probably what's wrong with it. I was told it's a very easy process, and I wondered if anyone would be able to tell me where the "Freon" goes in at?

Also, am I being naive in thinking it just needs freon? Is there a way to tell if it's the compressor or not? Any input is helpful, and thanks in advance!

In general, if you have lost some of the refrigerant, you have a leak somewhere. You'd probably be well served to inject a UV dye into the system to help pinpoint the leak.

Where do I inject the UV dye?

I have no idea where the freon or dye goes. Never done AC work.

Went to auto zone two weeks ago, bought $30 kit that comes with the freon and the pressure tube to put it into the system. I popped the hood, and it's the small tube right in front of the engine! I cranked up the car and turned the AC up to full blast, while my buddy punctured the freon tube, and held it upside down while the freon went in. 5 minutes later, the AC was ICE cold, and the can was empty. It was very simple, and I believe anyone could do this. I feel a little stupid for not just jumping into it sooner.
