Unhappy What's wrong with Fiona?? :-(

OK time to play a game...let's play "whats wrong with Fiona??"

Ready??

Okay here goes...

She starts up fine but about 1-2 seconds after she starts I hear a "grinding"/rubbing noise that lasts about 1-2 seconds and then the noise is gone, she drives fine...so what is wrong with her?? any ideas?? I look forward to hearing from you guys, thanks :-/

Is this what I get for leaving for 5 days??

I am trying to hear in my head what your are describing. But, alas, I have no idea. I hope it's not anything serious!

I would say it's a sticking starter. My 68 used to do it too.

Ernie is making the sound Toad just mentioned. It is a "dirty" starter. If the noise doesn't bother you, don't worry about it. Toad said his beloved bug did it for 20k plus miles. Now Easter Sunday, I was slightly embarrassed with the wheeeerrreee noise, (kind of sounded like my exwife griping at me) but other than that, He does fine PLUS!!! He isn't doing it now!! He just quit!!! Good luck!!!! *hugs Fiona & Casey*

Another vote for the starter. Mine did it when it was cold out. Now that its warm I'm not really hearing it. No big deal really.

That's the sound my Kaylee makes 50% of the time. I always kinda figured it was the starter. Not gonna worry about until I have to replace it.

These starters tend to make the noise when its cold, once the temps warm up it goes away. My (now traded in) 2000 2.0 NB did it for 24k with no adverse affects. Just ignore it unless you like spending $$$ unecessarily
