Hello everyone
I have a problem with my AC. When I get in to the car and drive for 10 minutes the AC works just fine, it cools normally. But when I drive for more than 15 minutes the AC doesn't cool anymore. When the car is cold I can listen perfectly how the compressor clutch engines. When the car gets a little hotter the compressor clutch doesn't engine. Is it related to some kind of sensor or maybe a relay? Thanks, |

Yep, I'm thinking one of the A/C sensors; perhaps the one in the radiator. Are the A/C fans working?

More info on the car...year? Miles? Could be a water pump or thermostat.

How's the coolant level? Are you noticing any leaking? My bet would be a water pump or thermostat. At 60k miles, you are about needing the timing belt/water pump service even if its not a failed pump.

OK here is the fan test procedure for 98' thru '05 ...
First check fuses#3 and #8 on top of the battery for melting and fuse # 16 in the driver side dash fuse box. 1) Disconnect the radiator thermo-switch sensor; driver side bottom of radiator. 2) Make jumper wire with an in line fuse so you do short out the fan control module. 3) Use the jumper wire to connect the red wire and the red/white striped wire. 4) Both fans should run at the lowest speed. 5) Next connect your jumper wire to the red wire and the red/yellow striped wire; both fans should run at the highest speed. For testing a 2005 NB the procedure is the same except that it uses numbers to identify which wire connector terminals to connect. Read this thread for the connector terminal layout. 1) Using your jumper wire connect terminals one and two; the fans should run at the lowest speed. 2) Using your jumper wire connect terminals two and three; the fans should run at the highest speed. If either fan does not work check the following... 1) Broken or frayed wires/connectors 2) Thermo-switch sensor 3) Fan Control Module Last edited by D2Beetle; 05-06-2010 at 11:38 AM.. |
