Why would the holes be an issue?

She means the clips are different. There are round holes and oval holes.

I THINK (not positive) you can simply change out the clips (in the mats themselves) with the appropriate shape clips. Not sure what the parts would cost, though.

They can be changed,I did mine. You have to be able to get to the backside(under carpet) because the bottom hafl is different also.Itook the trim off at the bottom of the door and reached under the carpet.

You can change the clips on the mats themselves; I've done it myself. The clips can be pried apart with a flat screwdriver and then removed. You can do it with your fingers if you're strong enough.

The appropriate clips are cheap from the dealer. Mine were $5 or so.

When my rings arrived in the mail, alas, they were the oval variety. After a call, the dealership apologized and promised to mail me round ones. When they came, I thought the package felt a little heavy. The rings were there (yes, they were round), but also was this nice, big heavy Volkswagen mug. On the box it said, "Sorry for the inconvenience. Enjoy!!"

I thought that was a nice touch, not to mention good business sense.

By the way, if anyone needs any oval grommet/fasteners, please PM me. You can have them for what it costs to mail them.

Yes, monster mats are what I have. I was able to just pull the plastic insert out of the mat and slip the other back in.

Did all the fasteners come as a kit? I am in the same boat myself. I have the round fasteners, purchased a set of monster mats that arrived with oval shaped holes. I think this is what I need to secure them in my 2003 NB TDI.

Also, did anyone have to trim the rear mats to get them to fit under the seat frames of the front seats? I am having a tough time getting the rears to slid in under the metal rails.

The fasteners do come as a kit, we have floor mat hardware available here on the website:

If you flip the seats forward you will be able to slide the mats under the seats...No need to trim them...It's a tight fit..

Thanks, but I need the round and not the oval. I ordered the kit already and should hopefully get it tomorrow.

I tried to flip the seats forward. I can manage to slide the one under the driver seat....but I can't for the life of me figure out a way to slide the mat under the passenger seat. It just refuses to go. Hopefully I get the right connectors and then I can try again tomorrow.

I haven't tried again on the back. The kit only gave me 4 fasteners which was enough for the two front mats. So now I need to purchase another kit for the rears. Need to do that and try again.
