Can someone please tell me the radio reset code for my 2001 VW New Beetle GLS 2.0, I need to disconnect the negative to upgrade my Haltech ECU and add a new ground kit, but i don't want to take to VW to have them charge me $400 to fix the radio reset code

It is usually on a card with the owner's manual or on a sticker by the spare tire.

It is also possible that it will reset itself if it is the original radio that came with your car.

Send a private message to user kaiser explaining the situation together with your cars VIN an the radio code on your radio. If you're nice he might give you your code for free.

Soon we have to start some sort of donation system for his efforts though

after replacing the battery the radio reset and the code in the owner's manual didn't work. i took it to the dealer and they were able to get me the code - at no charge. **NOTE** for the dealer to find the code, the radio needed to be at the point to enter the code (it locks after a couple of times entering the wrong code). To get the radio to reset and accept a code, the car has to be running for 1 hour.

I found the radio reset code, you have to remove the stock radio and the code is printed on back lol

If the whole idea of a code is so it's useless to anyone whole steals it, lol...why would you think they'd print the code on the back of the unit? That makes no sense at all.

That code printed on the back of the headunit I think is removable and is suppose to be placed inside the owners manual, I have a spot in my manual that says place code here and has a spot where you would put a sticker of some sort. So I am guessing that is what that is, the sticker just hasn't been removed yet.

Unhappy Radio activation Code

I am fixing up a 1998 New Beetle Base that had the OEM radio literally falling apart. The face plate was broken in several pieces and the buttons were falling out of the radio. My friend recently took a wrecked New Beetle to the recycler but removed the good radio and gave it to me. I don't have the VIN number from the car and I'm not sure if we can even get it. However, the radio has a serial # VWZ47A1014437. I have looked all around the radio and I cannot find the four digit code and I have used my Vag-Com to see if it could help me activate the radio. If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. I did call a dealer and they were unwilling to help me on the phone but they did offer to activate but it would cost anywhere from $65 and up.

Unfortunately you will have to take your NB, the old and replacement radios to the dealer to get their help. The four digit radio code is derived from the VIN and RIN (Radio Identification Number); VCDS (aka vag-com) cannot do it. The dealer accesses a VW website, enters your VIN and the replacement radio RIN to get the new four digit code.

Not that it's much help, but I was able to pull my radio out part way and the radio serial number was visible on top of the unit. I called a local dealership & they gave me the code over the phone.
Try a different dealership, maybe they would be more helpful

You were fortunate; the dealerships in my area will not do it over the phone.
