I think the Fog trim is OK, so I just need the Valance and Mesh Grill(e), which it looks like I can get from a place in TX for $75 primed. I will let you know how it goes.
Are you saying that I could get this from them via you?

No; just that I plan to buy it and since you seem reluctant about ebay I will post whether it is OK. However, since they are primed and I do not have a good way to paint it maybe I can buy two and you can paint one silver for me and send it? I am not quite ready to buy it though because I can't tell whether the little piece extending out from the ring around the fog light is part of the fog light trim (and missing) or if the little tab on the valance piece connects to the trim ring.

Thanks.

Ahhh, I got ya. You're getting it from eBay! Makes sense now. Yeah, if you would like me to paint it, I have no problem with that I'd need to see a color swatch of your bug, whether it's you taking a high quality picture of the paint or finding one online.

The fog light piece is the center line and the silver casing around the fog lights. (The mesh is the mesh, and the valance is the part that connects to the bumper.) Is that what you were asking?

Others: Please post more answers if you can!

Yes, thanks. I was studying one at a junkyard the other day, and I see that the fog trim snaps into the mesh grille, and the valance has two stubs that form the continuous line across the piece. I tried to buy a silver front bumper cover today at another junk yard (M&M, Stafford VA) and they wanted like $650 for the entire assembly including the steel innards I guess. They would not let me in to look at it or take pictures. The yard I found a fender at the other day was Central Salvage in MD, and they have a complete really nice rear bumper which they wanted $500 for, although the left side of their car is a little banged up. Ah nice. There are literally no bugs in yards around here.
If you find two, get one for me! I'll pay you

I found an ebay vendor who is advertising PAINTED front bumper covers, so after I hear back whether this is accurate and if I can get silver I will follow up about the valance, etc.

Forget that vendor; I just posted part of their reply on another thread, and I found another company in IL (Pershingauto.com) that has better prices for the parts, for painting, and for shipping and doesn't seem to misrepresent their product. Too good to be true? We'll see, and I will post about this when I have done it in a couple of weeks, including prices and hours spent and photos.

Well, I thought I had found someone with a Beetle in their part out lot, but the front valance (or whatever of the three terminologies you'd like to call it) was completely smashed up. He was nice enough to tell me as an honest person, "I'd never try and sell that to you." (Which I thought was really nice)

So, I'm back to browsing online instead of writing a topic paper, surprise surprise.

Is this the part I'm looking for, that connects to my bumper, the part that looks like it is "falling out"?
RockAuto Parts Catalog

I figure this is the main part I need. The fog light piece, and the mesh are the two parts I could optionally get. But is this the answer to my question?

I believe I recall someone posting RockAuto, and I found it very cheap.

Yes, with the link that you posted, the VARIOUS MFR Part # VW1094109 {#1C0805903CGRU}
w/fog lamps; Front bumper spoiler lower - is the part you need (though the pic is upside down) That's a good price too. You should be able to reuse your mesh and the center piece that goes around the foglights. Hope that helps.

Yay! <3333 I'm going to buy it now, BUT, one last question.

I currently have the factory/original grille, is the fog light piece going to pop out of the broken valence piece? I heard here and there that it wouldn't, and it doesn't look like it (although it's probably just fastened tightly).

I know I can reuse the mesh (after a good paint job, of course)!

Thank you

Hooray for idiots.

They think it's oversized because it is considered a spoiler, when it's the same size of the moulding, which gets cheap shipping.

Regardless, huck731 is sending me the valance and mesh for cheap.

After painting both pieces and installing (and removing fog lights) this is my result.

SO HAPPY!

Did you ever get the fog lights in? I'm in the process of all this and can't find a good way to put those lights in.
