Default Clutch Questions

I've noticed recently that Titan has developed something pretty weird with his clutch.

Say i'm at a stop and i'm about to go into first gear or reverse. Well, the entire car will begin to develop a shimmy unless i give quite a bit more gas to avoid it.

Well, as time has passed, i've been having quite some trouble getting the car to go properly into first or reverse and the car shakes like crazy now.

Finally, i've tested a bunch of time previously, but Titan's clutch has always been much tougher to use than ANY vw i've ever drove. When some test it, they note its extremely tough. Is there a way to adjust the clutch?

This is my first stick car, so i'm completely at a lost here and i'm not sure what to do or what i should be doing to get his clutch like a stock car's clutch.

The pedal operation of the clutch is fairly easy on any NB; you might want to check the pedal cable assembly and the slave cylinder on the tranny. The clutch also uses the brake fluid to operate, so you might want to check the fluid level in the master cylinder.

$20 says the DMF is crapping out. Time for a SMF G60/VR6 flywheel/clutch setup.

Yay time for more fun stuff!

I tested a 1.8T Wolfsburg Jetta for a friend and OMG that clutch was like butter compared to mine.... . Same on vs any mk4 Vw because I tested a bunch at the local meets and mine is very stiff in comparison.

So pretty much, its new clutch time? Any recommendations?

Thanks guys. I'm keeping an eye on this and i'll see where this goes.

I'm trying to figure out if you are dealing with a couple issues here or just one. The rough engagement etc points to the DMF, but if its not knocking or making other odd noises I'm not so sure. But the stiff pedal gives me another clue. I'd try to look up underneath the dash and work the clutch pedal with your hand. There is an over-center spring in the top of the clutch pedal assembly that helps with clutch effort/feel. If that has broken/popped loose (there are some plastic parts in there) then it would make the clutch feel stiff and not have very smooth travel.

It also might not hurt to try bleeding the clutch to see if that helps any. But it is also possible that it is not releasing fully, possibly due to broken clutch or pressure plate springs.

Do the easy stuff first, then go from there.
