Default 2001 GLS Beetle Horn stopped working - help please

The horn no longer works on a 2001 GLS VW Beetle. Fuses look good.
How difficult is it to replace? And where is the best place to order a new one?

There are two horns for the steering wheel and one for the alarm. The two tone horns are located under the drivers side bumper in front of the drivers wheel. It is unlikely both horns there are blown at the same time. It is likely the relay, #53, under the dash above your left leg when you are sitting in front of the steering wheel has failed finally. These relays are cheap on eBay or at your dealer.

Looks like this might work?

And if its under the dash it should be out in the open? Or will I need an installation guide on this?

I've replaced a lot of horns, but never a horn relay that I can remember. Typically one horn fails and most of the time the driver doesn't notice. It is when the second horn fails that the driver will notice. Same thing with headlights.

Take the car to a quite area, and with the ignition on but engine off, try to honk the horn, if you hear a clicking noise in the dash, then the relay is most likely fine.

The horns are on a bracket held that is secured with a bolt (13mm head). Look between the bumper cover and fender liner at the left front corner. The horns can be swapped out in a few minutes with just hand tools, the hardest part is unplugging them.

A 12V. horn is a 12V horn, but you may encounter P&P issues with both the mounting and the wiring plug. The "meep, meep" old skool air-cooled horn is a good alternative. A thread or two around here with a source and a how-to I believe. Haven't seen it up on the boards for a while, but thread search "meep". I also have the link SOMEWHERE if your interested and can't find it.

I found the #53 relay I hear it click when I push for the horn but no horn sounds , I tested the horn they both work so could it be the relay?

Either that or a break in the wire to the horns. Test them with a mulitmeter.

Then replace the horns with a WOLO Bad Boy
