Default no more "auto" power windows?

Hi again, My driver side window switch no longer does the "auto" thing? The up/down with the key from outside dosn't work either? The windows still operate from inside ok, and I'm wondering if anyone knows if it is the inside switch, or is there a "window control module" somewhere that could have gone south???
Any help out there???? Earl

i thought hte fix was to do the "window thing" with hte key in the door lock. It always doesnt that when i needa un-plug my battery. But if your door lock module has gone south (a very common problem on eailer bugs) then the car wont do the window thing from outside, well, the car doesnt even know when the door is open or closed. (easy way to tell is that sometimes when you push hte lock button, the drivers door sometimes doenst kock but hte alarm activates)

It's the actual door lock. There switches in it that make hte car electronically lock and open the doors with hte ket in the lock, and the switch that tells tha car the door is open worn out. And it eihter has to be replaced as a whole (like a $150 part) or you can try to do the fix yourself with a radioshack switch and a dremmil and glue. Growler has done it and he knows it alot better than i do.

***EDIT***
Here's a link to them on ECS. And i forgot to say that you vbasically have to get the the most innards of hte door to get to it.

I recently had some work done on my 2005 bug and the windows would not go up or down without holding the button either. All I did was run the window all the way up and all the way down a couple of times and then it started working.

I also noticed that at first, both windows would retract fully into the door, there wasn't the normal 1/2 inch or so sticking out. After I ran the windows up and down a couple times the windows began stopping at their normal spot again. It was like the car needed to re-learn where the limits were on the windows.

Just how much of these cars are computer controlled???
