Question exhaust manifold question

I got stuck waiting for a train last night. And the train stoped on the tracks, so i careful try to turn my car around. I hit a raised piece of pavement. Two things happened - I broke a motor mount and put a hole in exhaust manifold. I don't know the extent of hole yet. My question is I have a 1.8 Turbo - Could I drive with the hole in the exhaust manifold for a few weeks? Also - is a this a dealer only thing? Or can i go to muffler place?
I'm getting the motor mount fixed. Thanks!

You can drive with it. Besides losing a bit of boost and probably being noisy as heck it should be okay. I can guarantee it's a part that has to be ordered no matter where you go, since they are not very prone to failure. Since you have to replace it anyway, why not look into a performance aftermarket piece?

I am having a hard time understanding how you put a whole in your exhaust manifold considering it sits very high on the back of the motor and is cast iron. Did you possibly put a whole in the exhaust itself?

Jeez, you must have hit something awfully hard to break a motor mount. Sounds like you got airborn and probably broke that and the turbo down-tube at a seam when you landed on that, um, raised piece of pavement.

well i'm not sure exactly how i did it. Because I was in the process of turning around slowly I wasn't going more then like 5 mph but the angle of the hill i was trying to turn around on probably had more to do with it. I think it was a case of very bad luck. I hit the piece of raised pavent and went in reverse and it "ripped" the motor mount out I guess? I had the motor mount replaced and now I don't hear the noise they "said" was the hole in the exhaust manifold? I think they were just guessing and didn't really see a hole! Now she is running great with no issues . . . .

Hey Katie,
Sorry if my post seemed a tad strident. Was trying to be funny. Anyhow, sounds like everything is OK down there now. You may have just separated an exhaust connection if the motor was tweaked out of alignment, which was corrected with the new mount. And I'm guessing you're right about them guessing. Congrats for not letting them push an unecessary repair on you.
Happy buggin',

Also remember, the stock mani. in our cars is notoriously weak and prone to cracking. So , if it was already cracked, it would not take much to poke a hole.
