Default Clutch Switch FYI

Hello peeps! Just thought I would share a bit-o-knowledge with you all. A couple months ago I installed a new HID kit in the Ziggster's headlights. It looked pretty freakin' sweet, but I had a little problem. Every time I turned the key, the Trip Odometer would reset and all the dash lights would flicker. Apparently, this fried my clutch switch and left me without cruise control. This was just weeks before Roswell, and I was going to need some cruise control for the highway miles.

I went to the dealership and gave them the part number I needed. They told me the part number had been superseded. I bought the new switch with the new part number and quickly realized I had a problem. It wasn't long enough to make contact with the actual clutch pedal!
(new part that doesn't fit is on the left, original is on the right)
It certainly wouldn't be able to detect whether or not the clutch was depressed if it couldn't even touch it. So.... I went online and could not find the part anywhere. I finally found this aftermarket part that looked like it might match the original. The best part is, $11.50 is much easier to swallow than the $34 the dealer snagged from me (I'm still waiting on my money to come back to me in the mail).

So... If anyone else finds themselves with a new clutch switch that doesn't seem quite right... order this one, problem solved.

Thanks Fallon; my cruise won't work when the car is programmed to be a manual transmission car. It only works when it's programmed for an auto; the clutch sensior that cuts the cruise out seems to be shorted to the always on position instead of always off -- pretty sure it's a bad switch (it's used from another car...an 01 I believe). So, I'll order this and see what happens. For now the car is programmed as an automatic and that's enabled me to use the cruise control but I have to press the break to disengage the cruise... else the engine revs up really high!!!
