Unhappy Please help me ! Rear Hatch problem

I just bought a 1999 NB GL ,and the rear hatch only can not be unlocked by the electronic way. When I pressed the switch at the door or open it ,I heard "CLICK" from the lock of the hatch ,but it does not be unlock .And when I press the button of my E-key to try to open the trunck ,it does not work at all, even no "CLICK".What's wrong?
Also,it seems the indicator light of the seat-belt does not work at all.It will disppear no matter the belt is fastend or not.Is that OK? How it works in a proper way?
Please help me ,Thanks a lot

I'm new here, too. Are you holding down the hatch-release button on the e-fob for about 3 full seconds? The door-mounted hatch release on my NB will disengage it but will re-grasp it in a matter of 2 seconds if I don't hurry. I had that non-release issue before and took it to the dealer for an adjustment (under warranty). Sorry I can't help you with the seat belt issue...

The seat belt indicator is just a little reminder light (it's gets really annoying in latermodels where it almost forces you to wear it), but in '99, it's only stays on for a few seconds after you turn the key. So it will turn off with ot without the seatbelt on, it is normal.

My 2002 does not keep the seatbelt light lit for more than 5 seconds after start, belt on or off. I also thought it seemed "broken." but it isn't.

if you can open the hatch with the key but not with the switch, it sounds like the motor is broken. you can take off the black trim panel by undoing the two screw in the handles and then prying it off, starting from the bottom.

after the panel is off, try unlocking it both ways and see whats not happening (or what is happening that is not supposed to be).

tell us what you find!

Smile Half success

Thank you for your suggestions.I pried the panel off and found the small motor fell off.So I repluged the motor .The door-mounted switch works now !!!
But the middle button of the key doesn't work ,it seems the remote control cann't drive the motor. No matter how I press or hold the button, there is no response at all.But I can use the other two buttons to lock or unlock the door ,so I think it is not the problem of the key battery. Can I open the key, how to do that ? Or it is the problem of the electronic system inside the car?
Thank you all for your help!!

heh. i was writing up a big thing about remotes then i realized that you have a switchblade remote, and not a banjo one like mine. i dunno anything about taking apart those newfangled kind, but i'm sure some others do.

if you have a second remote, though, you could try unlocking the trunk with it to see if it's just a bad button or if its a system problem.

Switchblade: On the back of the key (where the VW logo is), there is a small slot to insert a screwdriver to pop it apart. Once you halve the remote, pry the remote portion apart. On the thin side, two cells.

Default Ok

Thank you all first !Finally ,all my problem about the hatch were solved.I think the reason I failed to open the rear hatch was I made a mistake,I didn't hold the button of the key for enough time before .I am sorry about this . I don't have any manual
Thanks again ! Have a good weekend!
