04 VW Beetle Speedometer not functioning and car not starting.
My girlfriend drives an 04 VW Beetle, and about 6 months ago her speedometer stopped working. Well a few days ago she was driving and the car started to die, she got back to work, but it would not stay running. She took it to a shop and asked them to see why its not running and if they can fix speedometer. They are saying the faulty speedometer is to blame for the car not starting. They are saying it is something with the VW cars. Is this true? Or does it sound like they are forgetting to mention something or trying to cheat her? I am not that familiar with VW bugs so I have no idea. Anyone have any input on this?

Oh yea, they are saying the parts, diagnostic and labor will be over $300.

I know there are several ppl on here who can address this for you (I can't), just a case of them coming on and seeing the post. Check back through the day and evening. Many don't come on till they get home from work.

Get it scanned and post the scan codes; if you can find someone in your area that has VCDS (aka Vag-Com) to scan it.
