2009 beetle, lights keep blowing

I'm trying to help a friend with an issue with her car.

She says, first one head light went out and then a few days later, the other one and now, 2 months later, brake light went out on one side, then my license plate light went out and the next day, the other brake light went out.

Apparently the mechanic told her, its just a problem the bugs all have. I have a hard time believing that. She says it has 42,000 miles on it and they told her its out of warranty.

I can only think that they have the wrong sizes fuses installed or there is a short in the wiring in the electrical system.

Anyone have any idea what could be possibly causing this or has anyone else having the same issue?

Could be coincidence, especially since its different lights each time and not the same light each time. Headlights do typically fail around the same time.
