Default Need help diagnosing major engine problem (video)

Our 2002 2.0L Beetle started going bonkers the other day. Anyone have any idea how I should start diagnosing this? The check engine light is flashing on and on. When I give the engine gas the fluttering doesn't seem to get any better.

Thanks for any help!

Sounds like it jumped timing. Whats the mileage? Have the TB/WP been done?

Just under 90k and we had the timing belt changed this year. Hmmm probably not a good idea to drive it right? What a pain

Sounds pretty awful. I would have it scanned and see what the code are that come up. I wouldn't be driving it like that.

Sounds pretty bad...I would not drive it/start it any more than you have to before having a mechanic taking a look at it. Please share what you find out...a jumped timing belt or maybe only one or two cylinders are firing could be the cause.

Question

You have got to separate threads running, here's the other -
Need help diagnosing major engine problem (video)
with identical sypmtom going two totally different directions, with two different inputs from you, what's up with this? Not making a lot of sense.

The other thread seems to have things a little more progressed with the car being at a mechanic's shop. Doesn't seem like this thread needs to continue.

Ya sorry I didn't know which forum people would visit more. We can close this thread since the other has more participation.
