Default Increased road noise between 60 and 65mph

I have a 2006 1.9 TDI beetle. I have michelin hydroedge tires on my beetle. The car has been maintained and has 72,000 miles. I bought this beetle used in June with 60,000 miles on it. Since then I have always had a lot of road noise, but I am pretty sure it is due to the really hard Hydroedge tires. I noticed this past weekend that when I am driving between 60 and 65 mph the noise doubles. It goes back down to the normal level when I go above 65mph. The noise happens no matter if I am accelerating or decelerating and happens every time no matter how fast or slow I approach or pass through the 60-65mph range.

I may have always had this noise, but I just noticed it because I had my radio off.

My tires are at the proper pressure.

Should I worry about this? Any ideas what could cause this?

Off the top of my head, check your tires. Gently slide your hand over the surface of the tire, if it has a wavy surface you will feel it and the cause for this is one of two possibilities ...

One, it could be that you are out of alignment which has developed a slight wavy surface to the tire. Get your alignment checked to determine its cause.

Two, there are certain tires (Michelin Pilots) that do not flex properly during rotation and after a while will develop the same slight wavy surface.

Option Two was the problem that all my NB's had with Micheline tires (I only use Michelin Tires), except for the MXV4 Plus (OEM) and the Primacy MXV4 (which is what I use now).

I had the struts replaced about 2 months ago and they realigned it at the same time. I don't see any abnormal wear on the tires.

It may be subtle and not be visible, do the "feel test" on all tires, all the way around. You only need one bad tire to cause a road noise problem.

I am gonna second the tire cupping.
These cars are notorious for cupping rear tires.
