HELP Check Engine light and Airbag light is on

I took my 2000 beetle to a locksmith today to get a key made.It seems that when he plugged his computer into my car something went wrong the key works fine but now my Check Engine light and my Airbag light is on and the transmission seems to be stuck in 3rd gear. Anyone have a clue as to what could be going on.

You'll need to get the car scanned for codes. VAG-COM will be the only thing that will tell you what the airbag code is for but you can go to Autozone and the like to get the CEL code(s) read for free. Sounds like the car is in limp mode but who knows why. The codes will tell you.
