Just a tip. On the larger of the two fan make sure that you don't have a 4 pin plug. All of the aftermarket assemblys only come with a 3 pin plug and a lot of the earlier New Beetle's had a 4 Pin Plug for the Larger fan.

There really is no easy way to remove the entire assembly. It is a bit of a pain. I think it is easier to remove each fan by itself and then the shroud. But check your original Large fan connector first. It won't do you any good if the original doesn't match your connector.

maybe i could just put the fans on cause the only problem is one of them is cracked real bad and everytime the fan cuts on it vibrates and makes a really loud noise

You can try that. Most aftermarket assemblies don't have the same mounting points or screws as the OEM fans. But give it a try and see. You just might make it work.

Good Luck!

You can certainly just change out the one fan. I've done that myself. Its tricky but you can do it without removing the bumper or anything (which is what the repair manuals tell you to do).
