Default 2006 New Beetle dies.

My wife has a 2006 2.5 engine. Sometime when slowing down at lights or signs it will die, the same for taking off. The battery light comes on. Once put in park or nuetral it will start again perhaps with no other problems for a few days. What could this possibly be. I have had the battery, starter and alternator all checked out with no problems existing. Stumped in Missouri.

Have you had the car scanned for codes?

Yes. The check engine light came on previously. They said it was a vacuum leak

Do you know what the actual code was? Was the problem solved?

There was no code when they checked. The engine light does not turn on anymore. Started few weeks ago. My wife did not drive it for couple of weeks so, when she tried to turned on, it didn't start. My first impression was the battery. Checked that, plugged the bug and started fine. What it does now is that while driving, the battery light came on and stop. The car turns back on fine after that.
We also tested the battery and they said it was fine.

Well you said that they indicated vaccuum lines when the CEL came on before, so there had to have been a code for them to know that. And if the CEL comes on, there is a code. Do you know what it was? Did they fix the lines?

You can also have codes without a CEL.

If the "battery" light comes on (its actually the generator light, which means the alternator) then you have some charging problem from the alternator.

Default 2006 beetle dies

there was a code last month when the CEL came on. I didn't write it down. So I have no idea what it was. I just took the car into AutoZone and they checked it again and there was no codes. Had the car in Firestone over the weekend and the checked all the starting system battery, alternator and starter. Everything checked good

Did they load test the alternator? So you never did anything with the vacuum leak either?

yes the alternator was tested and was fine putting out almost 14amps. As far as the vaccum leak I checked for leaks in obvious places but was unable to fine any. The CEL then went out and has not came on since.

VW parts again.....Your symptoms...stop wasting your valuable time and just change the crank sensor. NEVER gives a CEL when it fails, NOTHING is in memory. DOES NOT INVOLVE ANY battery/charging component. Crank sensor is about $80.00, make sure you buy the BOSCH one and your car will be back to normal. Located near the bottom of the motor on the front.
