Default Electronics Won't Turn Off

The car starts up just fine, but when I turn off the key the electronics remain on like they are supposed to, but when I open the driver side door, they remain on. I have been told it is 3 possible things. I was told it could be ignition switch, a faulty ground off the battery, or the sensor in the door latch. Anyone ever had a problem like this?

Hmm, My Beetle turns off the radio when I remove the key from the ignition. There aren't any other electronics that should remain on except maybe the interrior lights until you exit.

Now my Chevy Impala doesn't turn off the radio until I open the drivers door but not the Beetle.

I know on my GTI, you still have power to the windows and sunroof until you open the car.

Are you removing the key from the ignition or just turning it off and then opening the door?

Power remains to the windows, odometer LCD, and 90% of the time, the radio as well. And that is after removing the key.

Odo display will be on all the time. As will the clock. Windows should get power until you open the door. If they still do when you open the door, then yes, I'd say its a door switch. Does it seem to matter if you open up the passenger door?

To be honest, I didn't try the passenger door because in GMs, which I'm used to, the passenger side doesn't matter.

I know it cuts off power to my windows in the GTI. Doubt the NB would be any different. I'd give it a shot and see.

Okay, so I tried opening the passenger side door after turning off and removing the key, and the radio went off this time, but the windows still have power.
