Cool Can't Open the Gas Lid

I can't get the gas lid to open on my 2000 VW Beetle. I can hear the solenoid activating and the cable moving when I push the button but the lid does not pop open. Can anybody tell me how to open the lid without prying it open or breaking it? It doesn't seem to have an emergency bypass system/lever to get the lid open that I can find. HELP!

Good luck...Alan

And just FYI you can bent the flat locking tab backwards and just manually lift the lid up if you don't/can't replace the cable. Tugging on mine resolved my problems!
