do you really need that 14 dollar tool from vw to change the rear brake pads?

I did my brakes last week and the piston reset tool is a must. I actually rented mine from Autozone for $35. I returned it when I was done and got a store credit for it. Or of course you can keep the tool if you want for future use.

It is for front and rear. It is needed to push the piston back into the caliper. The piston needs to be turned AND pushed in at the same time and this tool is the only way to do it.
