I did my brakes last week and the piston reset tool is a must. I actually rented mine from Autozone for $35. I returned it when I was done and got a store credit for it. Or of course you can keep the tool if you want for future use.
It is for front and rear. It is needed to push the piston back into the caliper. The piston needs to be turned AND pushed in at the same time and this tool is the only way to do it.

i have changed the front without it, and the peopel at autozone had never heard of it before.
