Default Stolen Tag

While out of town with my last car my tag was stolen.
After i got a replacement i use anti-theft fasteners screws.
To install these you had to open the trunk to put the nut on which was very easy to do with the other vehicle.
The bug trunk has thick molding on the inside up againt where the tag would go, can this be removed easily? Or does anyone know of another way to install anti-theft screws for the tag.
Thanks a bunch.

Wasn't sure which forum to write this up. so it may have to be moved..

I seriously dont think there's any way to get to the back of the plate mounting location without taking the bumper skin off. From what I've seen, that itself isnt that hard to do, it's just time comsuming and you need to take your time and do it right.

Default different screw typtes

If you can't get into the inside of the trunk surface, I would suggest using some kind of screw that is uncommon, like Torx. The average goon on the street won't have these in his pocket, but you can buy them cheap at any hardware store. They can't be turned with a pocket knife. That should take care of 99% of the people who would steal your plate.

More info on Torx screws here.

There are also higher-security screws you see in places like public restrooms that have five-sided indents. I don't know where these come from, but they would certainly be secure, as well.

Cool

If you are looking for a secure method of attaching your license plate and have the ability to remove it when you wish, I would suggest acquiring a security torx tool. It's just like a torx driver and has a hole in the center to allow it to seat over the hub on a security torx bolt/screw.

This is the tool only so you'll need to acquire the security torx fasteners as well.
The chances of some punk (or anyone) having a security torx tool to remove your plate is incredibly remote...Alan M.

That is what I have used for years! Never had a problem with my tag. But then my tag says "Tpa Deb" so if it did get stolen if would have to be someone named debbie that lived in tampa that had a security torx tool.....
