Default Rear Hatch Leak

Hi,
My brand new 2006 TDI has leak in the rear hatch. If I run water over the top of the car, some of that water ends up in the hatch mechanism (the part that locks the hatch) and from there drips down underneath into the spare tire compartment.

Has anyone else seen this?
I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow and I'd like to give them enough info so that they don't disassemble the entire car in order to trace the leak. Again, the water drips through the hatch mechanism itself.

Thanks for any advice!

Sounds like a leaking brake light (the third one in the center of the hatch) or a bad seal somewhere. They'll likely just replace the light/rubber/latch and call it a day unless the problems keeps up.

ok, I finally had my car fixed today. For those of you keeping score, it was the rear third break light. The gasket was twisted and the light itself wasn't fully clipped on. They replaced it all, and now my bug is leak-free.

Thanks kcfoxie, for correctly diagnosing the problem!
