Default Part number for air con condenser?

Hi guys, I've got a 98/99 (built 10/98 reg'd 31/12/98) 1.9 TDi Bug, who used to live in Texas, but is now living in the UK with me.

Anyway, I bought him last year and we discovered the air con wasn't working because the condenser has a hole in it... so I need to buy a new one. I have a problem tho - because I have a personalised number plate, and he's an import, VW can't pick him up on their system and the vin number seems to confuse their system into thinking he was built in 2007.... so I can't get the correct part number for the condenser.

So does anyone know what the part number is? Or can point me in the right direction?

Cheers

*Lucy*

Hi! I don't have your answer with me, it's out in my car in the Bentley. I'll reference it at lunch for you unless someone else can came up with the answer beforehand. How did you import a texas car? That's pretty cool....

Thanks

I didn't import him myself - he was imported in around 2000 and I got him last year. I'm not too sure why they did it - perhaps the TDis came out over there before the ones in Europe? I dunno... so far he's the oldest TDi I've found in the UK

If anyone from Texas (he came from the dealer in Houston) recognises him, lemme know cos I'd like to know more about him!

He currently looks like this, altho he has changed a hell of a lot since I bought him!

A nice looking TDI. I really didn't know you could get a TDI in 98; I've met one 98 TDI in person so far and talked to a few online now. I think its cool you have the oldest TDI in the UK though

He's a very late 98 - 99 model year really. But I call him a 98 cos it sounds cooler

Yeah I don't know if for sure - but I haven't found an older one as of yet.

Good news, and not so good news. The good news is that the same condenser was used on all New Beetle TDI, and 2.0L from 98 to mid 02 (thru chassis number 2_499000).
The not so good news, I seem to have lost the part number. I also have a 98 TDI that had a hole in the condenser. It was up top near the dryer.

Cheers for that - they should be able to find a 2.0 on their system. We didn't get TDis over there till around 2002 all the others are imports (like mine).

Yes, I think that is the part number. If all else fails, the part number should be on the condenser.
Oh, the part number is 1J0 820 413 L Not 1JO . . . .
