Default Need a new master key.

So Natasha only came with a vallet key. I called my local dealership, they wanted $325 for a new key cut and programmed.

So I found a remote with blank key on eBay, $50. I just got a call from the dealership, key won't program. Maybe it will, maybe it won't. Either way, they can't/won't program it.

Are there any cheaper methods to getting a new master key?

There was an article in our local paper about drivers losing their key fobs. The article mentioned VW, Lexus, Mercedes, Toyota, etc. Basically, if you want a fob for whatever reason, you're going to pay a heck of a lot of $$$. A Prius owner lost his and ended up paying almost $1000 to get another one. But the Prius also requires a special fob. Anyway, the point is it's expensive so don't lose your new one!

The cheapest is to take the VIN to the dealer and order a new key. Our local dealer charged me $80 for a new master key. Be sure they order it and not cut it in the shop. That way it comes with the right chip in the key. Because it comes from Germany, it takes a couple of weeks. For me, no programming required. A new key can be adapted using Vag-Com if needed.

Your key blank most likely did not have a chip, and is just another vallet key.

For $80 I would not argue. I believe there is something different between the 98 and 2003 NBs. I am going to call other dealerships and see what I can find.
