Default Electrical Problems no A/C

My wife and I just got a 2001 Turbo Beetle that only has 34,000 easy miles on it. We know because her parents gave it to us. Anyway, this past saturday the A/C stopped working. It didn't fade out, it just stopped blowing cold air. The fan is still functioning, but it's blowing warm air. I took it to a shop today fearing that the compressor went out on me. To my great surprise, they said that everything in the air conditioning is functioning correctly. For some reason, the electric isn't telling the compressor to start. They said that I'm going to have to take it to a dealership. Has anyone in here experienced similar problems or know of any recalls that might be causing this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Mine did the same thing...I was lucky enough to read here in the message board about the three green fuses on top of the battery box melting. I looked at mine and sure enough they(far left one) had melted away. I spent $60 on a new fuse box with three new green fuses. It has worked fine ever since.

To my understanding, one of the fuses controls the cooling fan and no fan / no AC...

Good luck...

Thumbs up Recall on electrical box

I'm looking at the same problem and have found a recall number for those of you following this issue. Search for NHTSA Campaign ID Number 98V100000. It says the dealser will replace the faulty electrical connection box.
