We're going. Probably with both bugs, one pulling the camper- gas may keep us from spending money on hotel rooms, but it won't keep us from going

I'm pretty sure We'll be there. Don't know if Cup will be a trailer queen, or if she'll be riding sans trailer. Either way, we'll be there. Looking forward to the trip; it's been a while since i've really taken a decent vacation- this should be fun

Everyone gets maps and itineraries, so you are free to go on your own if you want to sight-see along the way.

Actually, I always offer a money-back guarantee to people if they don't have fun, and have never been taken up on the offer yet! We will also have a car coming all the way down from Alaska, so, no whining, just be there!

If you plan on coming along on the Central, please send me your email so I know who to expect, and where we're meeting up. The caravan runs down through Columbus, west to Missouri, Oklahoma, Amarillo, and down to Roswell. Details will be posted closer to the event.

I would love to go, even though, and because I've never done something like this before.
Howie got me all fired up about it when I visited him to pick up my seats.
It will take a LOT of planning (dates? ) but the additional safety of carabugging with Howie and others is one thing that would make it possible for me to go myself.
Wow, I just checked Mapquest, and it's almost 3,000km!!! How many days should I count for the road trip? How many nights accomodation along the way and at the show? After this Summer's extensive maintenance progam, I think Ladybug might be up to stretching her legs next year

Ewa, that would rock so much!!!

The times Howie led the caravan there I think he may have left Monday, but that was to get there Thu night. I know it was quite an ordeal, but he kept doing it for a reason! If you're going to be in a caravan for this the organizer will most likely set up rooms along the way, maybe even with a discounted rate.

In the past the show was Father's Day weekend, but sometimes it was changed to a week hotter... I mean later. But that'll give you a rough estimate of when it'll be!

Update from Earl

Quote:
New Beetle fanatics,

Finally I got the chance to work on this important project!!!!
Again, it is set for June 25th (evening), 26, 27, and 28th
(breakfast) of 2009 in beautiful Roswell. You do not have to have a
new beetle to come, but hope you have had one at one time or another
or you have chosen to leave it behind for this trip.

Tentative plans are:
June 25th - Meet and greet and have the traditional dinner at Tia
Juana's restaurant at 7:00 in the evening.
June 26th - Free day with two tours (one to Carlsbad Caverns and the
other to Lincoln historical town), possibly start around mid morning.
June 27th - Informal car show at the Sally Port from 11:00 to around
3:00. I am thinking of a car tour where owners will tell the crowd
what they have done to their rides as we tour the show - no trophies
so you do not to do the whole detail deal if you do not want to.
Hopefully a parade down main after (to be determined, but the town
seems to want this to happen - we will see). A banquet at the Sally
Port in the evening (lets party!)
June 28th - Meet for breakfast and sad goodbyes.
The only cost for any of these neat things would be for the banquet.
They say that it costs about $16.05 per person for a great buffet,
more to come on the menu and cost as time nears. So these are the
tentative plans for the 10 year reunion, do you have any ideas or
suggestions? Please write to me if you do.

I have finally made a deal with the Best Western Sally Port Inn &
Suites (better known as just the Sally Port to us old timers). I
think it would be much more fun if we all stayed in the same hotel if
possible. We have reserved a block of 50 rooms at a reduced rate to
start (I hope we will need more than that). Most are two beds, all
non-smoking, but a few are what they call suites. The regular price
for a regular room is $99.95 per night plus tax. We have a deal of
$75.00 per night plus tax or $80.00 per night plus tax for the suite
(not really sure what is in a suite, but a king size bed).

We currently have about 40 cars who have said they are interested.
What we need from all of you is to call the Sally Port at (575)
622-6430 and make your reservations. Tell them you are with the "New
Beetles Return to Roswell" group to get the discount. In this way we
will be able to get a pretty good count. You can cancel up to June
11th, 2009 without any costs so it is really no obligation so please
make your reservations if you are thinking of going.

We will be starting to work up caravans and getting caravan leader
volunteers. I have always thought that most of the fun was just
getting there and back! Lisa Linn has volunteered to make us a web
site in the near future so keep an eye out for that in the next few
months. We hope that this will be a grass roots thing as was the
first R2K so please spread the word as you can - the more the merrier.

Lets not let our great tradition fade away!!!!!!

I called and reserved a room for me and my mom. I would be happy to organize a caravan for north of Denver, hopefully get people from northern Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska area. I will talk to Rhonda.

Hey Sweetie

I'm glad you posted. I needed a reminder. I'll do it this week. Thanks Cori I'm pretty excited to attend. Maybe Car Crazy will do another story on us, huh?

And i'm pretty sure Val will be in attendance. As you know, I wore her down to accept us beetle people, and the beetle experience, like you did with your Mom. So yeah, she should be tagging along

Hi Cori
That's great Val is coming! When I reserved my room and told the woman our group name she repeated it and sounded just a bit bewildered. Hehehe.

Ok, here's a suggestion:
1. Group Photo (previous post)
2. More publicity in Roswell. Last year our waiter at Tia Juana's had no idea what was going on. A lot of people in Roswell know (obviously - they came to the parade) but more publicity can't hurt.

We'll be reserving a suite tomorrow. Looks like we'll have two bugs between Beej and I plus at least one camper, kid, and possibly a friend of the kid's. Can't wait!!!
ps- here's a recent pic from the NC outer banks near Cape Hatteras to get everyone in the mood

Absolutely love that pic- Homepage worthy, but I think you might have some sizing issues. Still and awesome pic. I need to find that spot to take a pic with Buttercup.
