If you are on the North Carolina Outer Banks, the UFO/house is on the ocean side of rte. 12, south of Cape Hatteras- sorry don't know the mile marker, but you'd see it

hmm what were the size requirements? i loaded it to photobucket thinking I resized to 400 by 250 or whatever the height would be. The first attempt it came out as a thumbnail- this one does seem awfully big- sorry- let me know what the size should be and will do. Sorry, been a few years since I regularly put up pics.

Another update"

Quote:
Hi all,

The organizing team has been working behind the scenes planning this event. It is scheduled for June 25th through 28th. 2009.
June 25th - meet at Tia Juana's restaurant in Roswell in the evening
June 26th - Informal caravans to local sights
June 27th - Non judged car show in the late morning-early afternoon, maybe a parade, and maybe a banquet in the evening (see below)
June 28th - Breakfast and goodbyes

Caravans are being organized now from all areas of the US. We hope to have our event website up and running in the October time frame so you can have the latest information. In the mean time you should make your hotel reservations at the Best Western Sally Port Inn in Roswell - ask for the New Beetles Return to Roswell discounts.

We thought that a Saturday night banquet would be a nice part of the event. We could all bring our Roswell memorabilia and memories and share our experiences with all our friends in a relaxing atmosphere with a good meal. Show pictures and videos from past Roswells and highlight the BOS winners as well as the hall of fame members. No costumes, no mariachi bands or cheerleaders, just our friends getting together for maybe one last time in Roswell. But the cost would be around $17.00 per person. Their has been some reservations about this due to the price and the past experiences with the "alien ball". So I would like for you to write me and tell me if you want to have this banquet or not.

Thanks, and see you in Roswell in 2009!

Cueball and the Return to Roswell organizing group

Sounds like it's all coming together nicely. Although I can't guarantee that I'll be sans costume at the banquet.

Oh No . No cheerleaders. But old friends will be there? I guess we'll have to come then. Have to try and remember where we left the beetle at. Tina has a new Orange HHR now and the beetle seems to be lost somewhere. We have 11 months to shine it up.

OK! We've got reservations! The lady at the Sally Port didn't have the final rate, but she had the group name on her computer and said it was still being set up. We have 3 nights in an upstairs suite, non-smoking (currently entered as $109.95- but she said that was only until the group rate was confirmed).
Is Podglow at Tia Juanas, then? Have a whole drawer full of stuff that has been waiting and accumulating Banquet sounds great- and the memorabilia, as well! I'm tempted to have a costume too, but we'll see how hectic it gets Glad the show is non-trophy. We've been to Carlsbad a couple times now- absolutely awesome! Still, time to see what else is around- so anybody who wants to head out to Lincoln historical town or anything else (esp. nature, history, rockhounding, etc.), we'll tag along! Can't wait to see you guys!
332 days to go (not even counting Caravan!!

Ollie you bring up a good point- other non beetle things to do. Are there places I can take my wife other than the Beetle activities? She's not the beetle nut like me and it would be nice to take her someplace. Shopping? Sites?

This is great news!! I love Roswell updates. So what is the best way to contact Earl? I'm in for the banquet. $17 is a small price to pay for a good time with friends! Al, there is really no shopping in Roswell. A few boutiques and alien stores. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think ABQ is the closest 'real' shopping. Like Ollie said there's Carlsbad which I think is a day trip or at least a half day. There's also the museum - I didn't get to see that last year. It's gonna be so hot I'll go wherever there's A/C.

Last year I did the shopping thing since I was by myself.
You are right, unless you are looking for t-shirts and alien related stuff, there isn't really much shopping at all.

The UFO Museum is pretty much a waste of time...but you have to do it at least once. For some reason I was insane and paid to go through it again last year, even when I was handing my money I was thinking to myself...why am I wasting money on this again.

There are a few Art Museums...and I'm sure you can find something else to do if you are in town...but not much. The town isn't known for it's culture.

I didn't think that sounded right, so I emailed Earl and here is his response...

Antoine,

I checked just yesterday and the room rates are the same as they told me and the same I got two weeks ago. $75 per night plus tax for regular room and $85 (I think) for a suite. I do not know what the difference is, but they tell me that the regular has two twin beds.

Hmm- guess I'll call them again- did get a confirmation number. Maybe it was because I called fairly late and an unfamiliar person was at the desk (about 10:30 pm their time). Then again she said she had pulled up New Beetles Return to Roswell for someone a few days ago...
Albuquerque is pretty cool- and it's a good Dub spotting town. I stayed there in January for an archaeology conference and there were two VW buses about a block away from my hotel. Saw tons of Ghias, old beetles, buses, type 3s, etc. as well as NBs. Old Town Albuquerque is one big shopping area- tons of native jewelry, pottery etc. as well as Mexican and South American crafts. I highly recommend Maisels on Rte. 66 in the new town- huge selection of Indian stuff and historic Rte 66 store front from the 30s. Also, Kimo theater if there's a show running and all kinds of restaurants and a few clubs. Everything is within 15-20 mintutes brisk walk, so fun to hunt bargains and check out the history on the way. Outside of town there are several casinos and Sandia Peak and the Tramway- very long, very high cable car/gondola ride with awesome views of the valley and restaurant ("High Finance") and ski slopes up top)- great for sunsets and city lights (at least with any camera other than mine). Check out some pics I took at photobucket:
http://s162.photobucket.com/albums/t...Albuquerque08/

oh- they said the suite was one big bed (king or queen- whichever is bigger- I never remember). The suites are nice- especially if you have folks hanging out in the evenings. Between BJ and myself, I don't think we've made it to the UFO museum in three Roswells.. so guess it is that time. Why is it such a disappointment Antoine? If it is just outdated and campy, I'm all for it.. Do they have decals/pins/patches/floaty pens?

Yeah - outdated and campy.
It's a must see once...unless you are with new people on a second visit it isn't worth it.

Let's put it this way, I was asked if I wanted to donate my Barbie Beetle (Matrix Bug) to the museum - talk about high dollar, high class displays. LOL

They do have a store that you can get into without going through the museum.

I dunno Antoine- the Matrix Bug was pretty awesome. lol- they asked us for our Barbie beetles too (so much for taste) - I can't remember if we loaned them or not- possibly? I think we have them back now- under a couple thousand other beetle toys...
I did take a look at their site:
http://www.roswellufomuseum.com/
I can deal with that- I know I'll never read all that signage in one trip- so I'd probably even go again (in 120 degrees or pouring rain). Interesting, never seen such prolific use of pegboard It may be a modest exhibit.. but remember, without initial visitor interest, Charles Wilson Peale's original natural history museum, Barnum's, the Smithsonian, etc. would never have survived. That said, yeah they could have improved on the aesthetics/design after 12 years...

Ditto what Ollie said about ABQ. I love the city it's so much like Denver just more Native American culture and that southwest feel. It has the really nice malls that aren't exactly unique to New Mexico but work just fine for a girl who has extra cash! Old Town is cool I've only been there once. Sandia Peak is beautiful I saw a black bear standing next to the road when we drove up there. Their mountains are more like our foothills but still really nice. Another great thing about the city is that it is super easy to get around.

If you have to go to the Presbyterian ER, plan on 8-9 hours. Been there, done that!!

If you want to. I believe the idea is that this is for an exhibition, not for trophies this year. There's not cost so no overhead and no trophies...just a get together of beetles.
