Another reason for bringing coolant would be because some of the small towns you travel through aren't going to have the proper coolant that our cars require - and mixing the normal prestone coolant and our coolant causes the coolant to turn to gel...not really good for the cooling system.

For my trip from Dallas, I don't usually pack anything like this unless I knew I had an issue with my coolant flange (like I did last year) - just in case I needed to an emergency repair on the road.

If you get your car checked out before the trip, being a newer model, you shouldn't have any issues.
Alright Thank u

No word on another motel yet but it's in the works. Stand by! We have a fine bunch of fellows working on it and things will be squared away soon. Keep making your plans and preparations. See you in Roswell.

This reminds me of a time, years back, when a bunch of us old school V-dubs went out that way ( I was in my Karmann Ghia) we had guy that had a spare engine in his bus just in case one of us had irreparable on-the-side-of-the-road damage. (we never used it)

Our #1 item on the list FAN BELT; #2 30W oil

I didn't think about VW coolant. That's a very good idea.I'm getting my timing belt/water pump and 80K service done Monday the 6th and departing Tue the 7th. Now I think I'll buy a couple of jugs of coolant from the dealership while I'm there. Just in case. From my understanding, Roswell can be pretty hot (over 100 degrees) in June.

Other than that, just luggage with clothes, toiletries, a disposable camera, a few rags, cleaners, detailing spray, my cell phone and its charger, and maybe a new laptop. I'm a part-time freelance writer and can continue to work in the motel rooms at night this way. As for a 2-way radio, I'll borrow one from my sister.

And of course, money!

The weather looks like it will be in the mid-90s while we are there, so it will be a little cooler than in 2009 when it was 100 or so. But yes, it does get HOT. Hopefully having it on the grass will make it cooler!

Be sure to bring plenty of sunscreen, weather-appropriate clothes, and drink LOTS of water!

105! in 2009 - I was glad my wife and 3 year old stayed in the hotel room after realizing that it was that hot!

I'm looking for a floppy hat today to keep the sun off my neck and ears.
