Question What are the TOP 10 things on your list to pack for Roswell?

SO! I know many people have been to Roswell for this exciting HUGE GTG but there are a few of us that have never been. Anyone have any tips or advice on what is needed to pack? Or do you have a TOP 10 list of MUST BRING items? If so, please post it here!! I'm about to pack up Evilina with everything under the kitchen sink but I have a feeling I'm not going to be needing half of it.....

WHO'S EXCITED!?! I know I am!!

I understood we may have an informal car show. I am bring some folding chairs. Might get tired of sitting in the car and need to find some shade.

Sue's list is good. Bring a chair or two. It's nice to have somewhere to sit besides your car or the curb.

--extra batteries for camera and radios
--Snacks and bottled water - a store isn't that far away but I don't like to stop during the drive if I don't have to.
--perhaps pictures from others GTGs/previous R2Ks?

my top 10
1.sunscreen
2.camera
3.radios
4.hot weather clothing!
5.Zen mp3 player
6.car detailing stuff
7.chairs
8.cash
9.extra quart of oil and coolant - just in case!
10.my mom!

I forgot to add for those who might have one...an alien baby!! The alien children should return to their landing location when possible!!! And bring a pasta strainer to protect your brain from any visitors.

If you have business cards/contact cards, those are good to bring. Some owners aren't org members or aren't on here often, but we keep in touch via email.

Ummmm what?!?!

Really?? I have enough Stitch plushes to kill a cow!! Stitch is an alien (not a traditional one, if there is a such thing). Does he count?

As for the pasta strainer, being that I'm asian, will a noodle hand wand thingy work?

A couple ladies at Roswell 2007 had alien twins - a boy and a girl. Sure Stitch is an alien, he counts. I have 1 Stitch maybe I will bring him. The noodle hand thingy would work!! Good thinking Shonnel! An episode of CSI:NY had this woman who was convinced she had found an alien and collected pasta strainers to protect her brain from radiowaves.

I wonder if the sock monkey beanie will help avoid getting brain waves sucked out by the aliens?

Heh, that's funny because I used a strainer as part of my alien costume one of the first years of R2K! I guess I was way ahead of my time, or at least a legend in my own mind.

One thing you must bring on the trip is a spare car key/remote! And don't lock it in your car. Keep it somewhere like in your hotel room or Caravan leader.

People have locked their keys in their cars, although it's harder to do on the NB. During a VW show in NY, one in our group locked the key in the trunk. A tow truck was called to jimmy the lock, and we found the poor guy driving around and around an hour later... he was only told to look for a VW!!!

This was in response to ThunderBug's question about what people do when in Roswell. He deleted his post but I will leave my answer anyway.

I hang out with old friends and new friends starting Thursday evening (well actually during the day when I join the Mighty Central! Caravan).

Everyone who can meets at Tia Juana's Mexican Restaraunt for dinner. After dinner, there may be a quick run to wash the cars or swing by the Dairy Queen for a late night snack.

Friday morning used to be for getting all of the final show stuff put together for Saturday. Not sure what will happen this year. Probably meet for breakfast some place.

Some people will prowl around town and take in the sites. There is a wonderful museum next to the civic center that is dedicated to art and science and houses Robert Goddard's lab. If you are into space stuff - this is a must see. There are all of the alien trinket shops down towards the middle of town.

If you are in to wines, there are several wine shops that have a nice selection of local wines. They are quite good.

If you are up for a short drive, head out towards Ruidoso, NM and stop off at Lincoln NM and see the town as it looked during the Lincoln County wars and where Billy the Kid once ran around the territory.

Continue on to Ruidoso and hit up some of the wine shops there for even more local wines (find some Ruidoso Red for a wonderful local merlot). Swing by the Remington Museum and see so great art. Ruidoso is in the mountains is wonderfully cool. There is a horse track and casino there. The casino is Inn of the Mountain Gods which is actually just out of town.

Others might want to head down to Carlsbad and go to Carlsbad Caverans. It's a nice drive and the cave is interesting.

Have dinner with new and old friends and maybe enjoy a dip in the pool.

Get your car cleaned up for the show and shine and hit it one more time on Saturday morning.

Not sure what is planned for Saturday - you might want to check the website listed above somewhere.

Some of us catch a nap or visit or just whatever.

I think I'm pretty much set with my Alien passengers for this trip now!! Here is a pic from someone selling one on ebay.

Cool find Shonnel!

I posted my "I locked my keys in my car" tale on the Roswell thread so I will definitely be bringing my extra set and leaving those in my hotel room.

Extra set of keys, CHECK! Well Evilina sadly only has one working switchblade (remote wise). When we took it to the dealer, they said that the chip inside was fried but the key still works

My packing fears...

Not having enough room!!! It will be my hubby, our friend Colene and myself...we are DEFINITELY bringing a cooler and the chairs but thinking of all the detailing stuff along with luggage and everything else, I'm kinda getting stressed!

wow 3 people plus all that stuff in a Beetle? Your friend must be short to fit in the backseat. Good luck packing! Maybe you should have a trial run before the big day!
