Default Swap Meet does sound really cool

I vote YES for a swap meet talbe or tables at the next Roswell event. Here are some things to consider:

Who will watch the table to make sure things dont walk off? Kids where stealing hot wheels off the cars this past event.

Will you place stickers with the owners name and price on it, to log at the end of day and give the money raised to those who put items on the tables?

Who will supply the tables for this? I am sure many of us dont want to strap long tables to our ruff while driving to this event.. Maybe purchase or rent some in Roswell? Jerry and Howie how did you get your tables? Did the UFO lend those to you?

This is a really good idea to sell unwanted parts etc. to other beelte lovers..

After this years show, there was many parts sold from the show but shipping was paid and this could be avoided if the items where there for sale at the time..

Great Idea!! lets make this happen..

You could do what a lot of swap meets do and just spread a blanket on the ground and lay out your parts. That would require you staying with your stuff or having a partner to help.

The alternative is to tag all pieces with something that identifies you as the seller and have a group table.

I think the tables came from the UFO Museum. A lot of times, local youth groups (Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, etc) have tables that you can probably rent cheaply as a donation to the local group for say camping scholarships.

Just remember, you need to bring enough cash for making change.

It might be helpful to start a thread really close to the actual event where people can post what they have to sell and others can view. This way, you may have buyers ahead of the event which is a good thing.

If I have another New Beetle, or can borrow the 'vert, and I am getting my finances back in order, I will be there.

I believe that Jerry and I told everyone that we were bringing toys to sell. I guess that people didn't clue in that they could also bring things to sell. Anyway, that's fine, we'll get it sorted out for next show.

The tables were supplied by the Museum, which was nice. When we had the show at the convention center they supplied the tables, but it costs to have it there. The idea of the reunion was to get people out and not cost a lot because of the economy.

Next time people can use a table, or the ground (bring a tarp?). Maybe put your name on the item(s) and then only a few people need to monitor the tables, then pay you when you take your turn. Jerry and I did tag-team watching each other's stuff while one of us walked around.

When will the next Roswell show take place? I just bought a NB and have always wanted to attend this event. Am I to understand that it's now only every OTHER year? I was hoping to go in 2010. Do I have to wait until 2011? What are the dates?

I'm quite disappointed that it only occurs every TWO years. I was really looking forward to going next year. With that said, do the dates change each time, or is it generally the same weekend bi-yearly? I don't really have a preference for dates as long as it doesn't conflict with my own VW Club's show on the Saturday before Father's Day in June.

Well, we're in new territory here. A specific date hasn't been decided yet, nor have we decided if that date will be THE date for all future shows.

We voted to have it every two years because for many people, it's a heck of a long way to go, and attendance had dropped dramatically. By doing it every two years we hope to increase attendance.

With suggestions following through and taking the initiative to help out is the best way to make sure what you want to see happen does happen.

It's OUR show now - LOL - so it's our turn to put up and show what we can produce. With everyone doing a little, it will make much less work for all those involved in the show...PLUS, it really does make you feel good when you see others having such a great time at something that you had a hand in creating. That's what did it for those of us that organized this years event and other shows - it's the people that attend and have a great time that makes it worth the headache (an the Uhaul trailer rental-LOL)

No better time to start planning than the present...while it is still fresh in our minds. There are alot of TNBRU ideas that we got from Roswell that I will post up that might be ideas that others would find a valid addition to the show.
Ok, I just want to say that the year I went (2004) was fun I had a great time though it was very hot. I don't mind the fee and love all the thing that was planned great job!

Last year the UFO museum put the tent up, supplied the tables and chairs.

This year we are having it near a Rec Center/park. Would hope that they have tables we can borrow...will have to let Earl know our need so he can speak with them about it.

Are we going to set off our "alarm horns" at 1PM sharp in honor of all falling bugs, orgers, and those who couldn't make it this year?

Is there a website for this event? I am fairly new to the VW world. I had not heard of the show until recently. Thank you!

Yes, we are just starting to do some preliminary planning and hashing of ideas! We hope you can make it, and there usually is a caravan from Texas.
