Default 2011 Texas Caravan(s) Planning

Okay - Map Update -
Return2Roswell2011 - Texas Caravan - Google Maps

Looks like:
7:00am - Depart from IHOP Restaurant‎ - I-30 exit 7A (I believe), 2015 South Cherry Lane, White Settlement, TX 76108-3603
Marvins_dad, Baby Sallie, ???SilverBella, ???jason m

8:30am - Meet up with Cameron at I-20 and Hwy 6 - I-20 exit 340(?)
Cameron_Talley

9:30am - Meet up with SE Caravan/Bugavan/Carabug (if they can wait this long) in Abilene - Exit to be determined
Chuckie, kcfoxie, bugturbo2002, ???scarabY2k

After Sweetwater, Tx we will turn onto HWY 84 until Post - then turn onto HWY 360 for the rest of the trip.

Lunch - Snyder or Post? I believe we normally stop at Post and refuel...but we will play it by ear and stomach.

Google Maps estimates 8 hours straight drive time...so with 1 hour lunch and other stops I would guess 10 hours total to get to Roswell from Fort Worth. So that would put us in Roswell around 5pm. With time to check in and walk or drive our cars 200 feet to Tia Juana's by 7pm for the Welcome get together.

I'm in the Houston area...just got a 1999 silver beetle - Silver Bella. I already put in for my vacation to go to Roswell. I'd love to meet up with a Houston group or we have friends in Dallas we could stay with Wednesday night and meet up with the Dallas group. Sounds really fun!

I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet. I may come up to Lubbock a few days early. Or I may caravan. I'll have to think about it...

From Dallas I am suggesting we leave before the crack of dawn on Thursday the 9th of June. That way we can make it to Roswell in time to check in and relax a bit before going to TiaJauana's for the welcome dinner.

I'll have to check the route to see exactly what the timing is...we will be stopping for lunch somewhere mid-way.

It's totally doable in one day, but is a long day of driving.

Here is the most direct/quickest route...I believe it is what I have done in the past.

Shell to Roswell, NM - Google Maps

Looks like 8+ hours straight...9.5 hours with an hour lunch and a couple stops. 480 miles.

What time would we need to leave in the morning to avoid rush hour gridlock on I30? Anyone know? 6:30am, 7am?

I-30 will merge with I-20 and we will take that past Abilene and change roads past Sweetwater.

Still not sure what my plans are--waiting on my Mom to see what we do after roswell for vacation. That impacts when I leave!

But I'm thinking if I do join the caravan, I will probably meet up with y'all where Highway 6 intersects I20, rather than drive to Dallas first.

Ok, we have hotel reservations in Roswell for Thursday night, so I'll be joining the caravan that day!

Antoine: Do you think you could have the caravan make a pit stop where Highway 6 meets I20? that would probably be the best place for me to meet up with y'all. It takes me about 2 hours to get from Waco to that intersection.

I will be, assuming you can meet me in Eastland where Highway 6 meets I20.

If I can make it, Why don't we all meet up somewhere in Ft Worth at a IHOP or Denny's off I20 or I30 this way some won't have to backtrack to meet in Dallas. (I'll take I35W South from Denton)

Or we can meet up in Weatherford since everyone has to pass by it.

Pick a location, I don't mind it...anyone else have a problem with that? It would also get us through the major areas of traffic...if we meet at an eatery we could pick up a real early breakfast.
