Roswell 2011 Central Caravan Itinerary

Hey Volks!

I’m pleased to provide the following details about the itinerary for the 2011 Central Caravan! Please make your reservations as soon as possible to guarantee your room, and then let me know when/where you will be meeting up with us. Once again, as per popular request, we will be cruising along parts of Route 66.

Tuesday June 7, we will meet up at the Best Western Joliet, 4380 Enterprise Dr. at 9 am, cruise along the Route 66, overnight in St. James, MO.

About $56 for 2 adults, 2 beds. Includes Daybreak Breakfast with hot items, free wifi in all rooms, indoor pool, and 32” flat screen TVs!

Mention you are with the New Beetle Group. Ask for Sue (manager) if you call, but it’s a bit cheaper online (AAA, AARP), but there are no refunds if you cancel.

About $52 with AARP discount. Includes Daybreak Breakfast, Free wifi in all rooms, fridge, microwave.

We are staying in St. James instead of Rolla because Rolla was a dump! It seems that everything inexpensive is crappy, and anything nicer is too pricey. St. James has excellent visitor reviews. Please note that these are suggested places to stay, and you are entirely welcome to make your own overnight arrangements, but these will be our starting places in the morning.

I guess I shouldn't have assumed anything, but I made reservations at the HoJo in OKC, also on Meridian, where you said you stayed last time. How far is that from the Days Inn? OKC is where I'll be meeting up with you guys. If the two motels are just down the road from each other, I'll keep my room at HoJo. If not, then maybe I better cancel and book at Days. AARP is a good thing, isn' it?

Do you know what route you will be taking from St. James to OKC? Would like to join you as you pass the Tulsa area if possible.

It's just a couple properties south of our location, so try to change the reservation if you can (they are owned by the same company). HOJOs wouldn't give us a better deal, so I thought that $70 with tax for OKC was too much when I'm getting a HOJO room in Albuquerque for $52. I don't have AARP; the buddy riding with me does.

Thanks, I edited the address... a bit dyslexic I guess!

We usually travel south around Tulsa, but last time we arrived before rush hour, so we just went through the city. I don't know where we could meet. LMK if you know.

I have a bit of the dyslexia myself.

If I knew which road you will be taking we could hang out and keep an eye open for you but that is okay. We can just join up with you in OKC. We'll probably avoid the tolls and drive old Route 66 down.

We are getting closer to time to leave. We are definitely looking forward to the trip.

Thanks Howie. If we can figure the route we will "adapt". Would love to make the caravan 2 cars larger rolling into OKC.

"ewards71" is our son. He'll be driving Lily and we'll be bringing Gandalf. I plan to get him down here soon to help with the oil changes.

That makes 4 cars so far. I'm surprised we haven't heard from more. Where are you guys?

What time Wed morning will the Central be departing the Days Inn in St James Mo? I'm considering meeting there instead of OKC the next day. Unless rooms are already booked up, that is. Joliet simply won't work for me, because my vacation doesn't start until the 7th. You guys will already be on the road headed to Missouri by the time I leave Wisconsin.

What I could do is leave Eau Claire, take 94 down through Madison , 39 at Rockford down to wherever it meets with 55 to St. Louis and then 44 to St James. Of course, this would mean a 620 mile trek in one day..........

I'm sure the place in St. James isn't booked up. I hope to have everyone ready and fueled up to leave by 8:30 each morning... not stupidly early, but enough that we can get going.

Over 600 miles isn't a big trek... I did the drive home of 1700 miles from Roswell in 2 days. And you're younger!
