This would also be a great way for VWoA (if they were willing) to promote the next Beetle and to exite a whole new generation of Bug lovers, provided there wouldn't be copyright and/or trademark infringement issues.
Hence the greatness of posting this thread way in advance; the same is done with ToD. It gives people the chance to share input, get involved with the vibe and get the orgers encouraged to get into P.R. mode. This way we can tag beetles in our towns, as well as suggesting new orgers to check out the Roswell thread. By the time early 2013 rolls around, we should rolling deep in beetle representation.

And I too hope that VWoA makes a showing for Roswell. Weather it be a show-show or more of a GtG, Roswell is good P.R. for them.

WOW! that's awesome!
VW unity, especially with our bugs, is a beautiful thing.

If I could just make a few quick comments...

Yes, to allowing the "new" NBs, or whatever they will be called, into the show. Who are we to judge?

Talking about judging, as I mentioned before, I'm not into judged car shows since there is usually bias towards cars that have had thousands of dollars of additions. This year, because I was asked to be a judge, I questioned what should qualify as an outstanding interior or engine. There was a car that had a stock engine, but all the hoses and surfaces were gleaming, and it was a daily driver. I felt that that car should have won the outstanding engine instead of something that was highly modified, and this led to the award for cleanest stock. I realize people still want their cars judged, and I feel that the compromise we had this year was best... not having a class for every year of car. And, let the people judge most of the categories. We still have to work on the bias against stock cars.

Tia Juana's has let us down more than once, even with the advance warning and short menu this year. I wound up sitting inside because none of you guys saved me a seat () and it was hotter than outside. Service was even slow inside, and I felt sorry for the waitstaff that had to work in that heat with full uniforms. The food was so-so, so maybe the Thursday night gig should be at Farley's. Like Antoine said, they did an awesome job with no notice of us coming. As more people arrived, I just asked them to add more tables, and they were totally accommodating.

As for Roswell, the show isn't Roswell unless it's in Roswell. As someone that drives the 1800 miles one-way from Canada, I totally love it down there, and feel that the cars add a unique quality and character to the town. People that think the drive is far should come with us. In retrospect, today was a large VW car show only 45 minutes away in Niagara Falls Canada, and I hemmed and hawed about going, but Roswell is a no-brainer to me! I hardly talked to anyone there, but Roswell has all my friends.

I hope to continue to lead the Central Caravan down there, and I'd be pleased to look after the show t-shirts again. And next time I'm sharing a room with Anna!!

Default The Horror............

Sometimes I wake late at night, screaming and bathed in sweat, remembering the horror of those damn plastic chairs at Tiajuana's. Didn't see any body having problems with the chairs at Farleys.......

The gravitational pull of Roswell is pulling on us in Florida already. Hopefully more from this area will be heading there in 13.

Team Cup will be there! Not sure if Val will make the roadie. Maybe if I get the AC fixed and Teresa can do some persuading, the wife-unit will tag along.

Subscribing to watch this unfold. Seeing as how RtR has been on my bucket list and it's in 2013, I would love to see if this event is within my grasp. I have read the past three pages but didnt see anywhere when the event is being held?????
In for more info.

I'm not sure if a date has been selected but it was late July in 2009 and early in July 2011. Just shoot for sometime in July 2013 and I'll bet you'll be close.

Well I ran it past the spousal unit and she was somewhat intrigued about the concept of a cross country roadtrip.
But I am guessing she has more interest in Roswell then the NB gtg. But she didn't shoot it out of the water, so that is a good sign....... Will be lurking to gain more info.

I don't know about 2009 because I wasn't there, but in 2011, it was in early June, not July. If memory serves, it was something like June 9, 10, 11, and 12.

You are correct. In both 2009 and 2011 it was in June not July. The old brain fade got me again.

I lose track of more localized VW show dates,on what takes place when, so don't feel bad. I just remember Roswell well because it was not only my first trip there, but also the best VW event I've ever had the pleasure of going to.

June 2013 is a long ways off, but I hope with the release of a new generation of water-cooled Beetles, we'll have double the attendance(or at least see 50 -60 show up as opposed to 37).

I almost traded in my 2007 Passat for a companion Beetle to my 2000 Cyber Green GLS, but my wife wasn't pleased with that idea. But you never know. In seventeen months, things could be different!

I have put this GTG/Event on my "To Do" list for 2013. You could also try getting something going on Face Book as a lot of people are gossiping as much there as here.

I would think your first item on the agenda is to pick a date/time frame and work from there. The concept being used by the TOD people might be helpful like choosing one weekend of a particular month and keeping it for all future events, once that's done everyone can plan vacation schedules for that time frame.

I agree with everything Howie said, except for sharing a room with Anna.

1. Must be in Roswell
2. Awards should be judged by participants and not so biased against stock cars
3. Forget Tia Juana's - food and service was so-so in 07 and 09
4. Let's choose a date and get the ball rolling!!

Agreed with Cori... Time to get Roswell in full-on mode.

TOD albeit 2 weeks away, is, for all intents and purposes, is in the books- time to get Roswell in the forefront of everyone's minds, as well as their plans.

My plans are to still be there for R2R. Will get my coffee-can fund going shortly after TOD. Roswell is a haul, but the advance planning makes all the difference. I had a blast back in ''09.... looking forward to '13!

Yep, the earlier we plan things out, the better chances of more Beetles being there! 2011 was my first time, and I wouldn't miss it again for the world, even if gas is $6.00 a gallon by then.

Rhonda pinged me on Facebook as well about a date.

I'll have to start talking with the guys to see what dates they are leaning towards and we might have to start a date thread like we did last time.

We moved it from around Father's Day weekend (historically was the original Roswell weekend) to a couple weeks earlier since it was scorching hot in '09. The park was a good change and chance for some shade last time as well.

I even have toyed with the idea of a "Night Show" since it is always so pleasant at night...most folks end up hanging out in the parking lot anyway at some point, so I know it wouldn't be too much of a jump to take to see if there is any validity to a night show. Our glow could be at the end of the show...and maybe we could use one of those inflatable movie screens to show New Beetle related videos and movies during the show. I have all types of ideas on this, but wonder if (A) would anyone be interested in this idea and (B) would the park be safe at night or should we just use a parking lot. (btw, setup and voting could be during daylight after an early dinner or something like that).

Oh yeah - and thanks for bumping this guys to get the discussions going.

We definitely need the type of juice that the TOD has - reminding folks constantly about the show and constant discussion to get folks excited!

TOD just wasn't in the cards for us this summer because Aiden turned 6 and we had decided that when he turned 6 it would be a Disney Trip Summer (since Pam and I were both 6 when we first went). Looking forward to the pics!
