Looks like they want to go with the DSG over the Tiptronic

I got my hopes up.

It's still an automatic if I'm not pressing a pedal.

They will never go 100% manual...too many people out there who can't handle the clutch...DSG is a nice trade off, however.

LOL! My first Beetle had a SlickShift. It was actually kinda fun to drive. You could pop the cluch by continuing to hold down the shift knob after putting the car into gear, then rev it up and lift your hand off of the knob.

As a driver of a DSG car on a faily frequent basis, I disagree. The computer is still, and always will be, too slow. If I hit the shifter 3 times I expect it to move back 3 gears *immediately* and instead it works it way down (6-5-4, not 6 straight to 3)... a manual will always give me the control I'll demand from a car. If they made it to where it would cut gears and force itself into it'd redline zone, I'd consider it a "fair trade off," but I won't until it can do that. Also without modification to make it so.

I only got to drive one for a brief period of time...I guess it depends on if you REALLY need the control, or just want the ILLUSION that you are in control...LOL

I guess you could call the DSG a today's very expensive, and over engineered version of the 3 speed auto stick.

But if you want true control of a vehicle the stick is still the only way to go. I guess you could look into racing cars to see that point.

But the DSG has given what Auto's have longed for since conception. Similar MPG's and performance figures. Sure, if you are in manual mode and want to drop from sixth down to third and make it stick, no matter what the RPM's, then you will need a manual. The DSG thinks for you and won't let you over or under rev the engine.

Anyone try the DSG in slow moving traffic using manual mode and have the computer kick it down from second into first. It's a real eyeopener as the vehicle about stops.

I love the DSG - it is still fun to drive...if you have the paddle shifters

I'm a manual fan by nature but DSG makes me smile every time I drive my car. It's a technical marvel and it definitely tickles the geek side of my personality. Also, DSG can skip gears on downshifts, you just have to move the lever fast enough. Of course, with a TDI attached to the DSG, it's rare that a 2 gear downshift would be required.
