How to Top Touareg: VW Christens New Tiguan

"We’re just dumbfounded this morning. Utterly dumbfounded. When Volkswagen announced its first SUV would be the hard-to-pronounce Touareg, most of the auto press snickered. Consumers struggled to simply pronounce the name, let alone tell a friend they liked it, and the company spent its first slew of Touareg ads teaching the public how to pronounce it. Then there’s the fact that the Touareg is actually the name of an African tribe that still dealt in the slave trade well into the 20th century. Good job marketing guys. " More...

unfortunately it will loose the ground clearance and big wheels before production and thus make it a sissy small SUV like all the others. oh and it will be 45K+ and thus be a terrible value as well.

doubtful. it'll be mid to high 20s, cute yutes don't top 30k and the touareg, despite what many want to say, sells well in some regions (i live in one) and it was priced adequately for the features. the 11" air lift is just impressive, no matter what.

I think you're thinking of the CrossPolo. The SUV pictured above is based on a Golf Plus and is most likely what we will be getting as the Concept A was designed around this. Perhaps the Tiguan will get a Concept A look to the front end but I wouldn't expect any other major changes to the above design. Remember, the Tiguan is just a smaller SUV while the Concept A is an SUV sports coupe concept with things like suicide doors that will never make it into production.

Default Touareg!

Touareg, the car that is in the shop more than you will ever drive it,start it up and watch the dash lights all come on and never go off,a dashboard light show, sensors that get replaced every 100 miles, tire pressure sensors that never work!the list goes on and on!

hey now, i know one that only had a constantly-lit airbag light that turned out to be a lose connection. it was the only issue he'd had with the 04 ... it takes about 3 to 4 generations for VW to "get it right" (in terms of model years; not platforms)!

Some new spy shots of the Tiguan are up at Edmunds...

Although it's disguised you can still tell it's going to look an awful lot (if not exactly) like the pictures I posted above.

Personally, I think VW's styling dept is completely out of touch with what potential VW-buyers want.

And isn't the car industry over the whole SUV thing yet?

THANK YOU!!!! The New Jetta? Uhm, can you say corolla? VW is totally going toward boring, bland, Japanese styling...it's really sad. It seems they are starting to lose touch with what makes them VW...hopefully I'm wrong but it sure seems that way

hey now.
don't diss toyota like that!!!

i don't think the new jetta loox anything like the corolla.
and as for the toyota corolla, i think you get some serrious bang for your buck with that car.
not to mention reliability.

and i really don't think japanese styling is so boring and bland anymore.
the japanese are making their cars look TIGHT!!!!!
giving big bolder lines and prominent front ends.
way better than anything VW has on their new mark V platform, imo... too sleek, uninspiring, and boring.

Agreed...and as much as I hate to say it, in person, the GTI makes me think of a Honda...

exactly my point...one of the big reasons I drive the car I do is because there are few cars on the road to be compared to its styling. I have even gone farther and tried to make styling differences to make it look different from other NB's. The other good things about the NB are icing on the cake for me!
