Default NEWlLY DELIVERED 2006 DIESEL NEWBEETLE

Went by one of the VW dealers in the Richmond, VA area today. I was surprised to see a newly delivered 2006 NewBeetle diesel. It was next to a newly delivered 2007 NewBeetle convertible. Both had the plastic coverings still attached. I thought there were no more NewBeetle diesels being shipped as of May 2006. The dealer was closed and I was unable to speak to anyone. Also, saw one of the new VW EOS, four seat hardtop convertible. MSRP was $36,300. Not that attractive of a car for that kind of money. Top is neat, front half is a sunroof.

oh no no no - VW made a whole lot of 06 diesel cars - beetles and jettas alike - to sell during 2007. the trick is, they have to sell them AS 06 model year cars, so as to stay within the new regulations. there was a production jump so dealer stock could stay full while the TDI went out of production for a year. you can still buy an 06 diesel, last i heard.

Last i read (Car and Driver, TopGear), the reason why there wont be any MY07 diesels is because VW couldnt get the new engine up to US spec in time, and VW has pretty much promised the engine for the 08 MY.

I can't imagine that VW will continue to sell 2006 NewBeetle and 2006 Jetta diesels into the 2007 model year. I'm confused with this. At some point, they will cut them off.

In June I ordered a '06 TDI. It will possibly be delivered this week. The way I understand it, diesels imported after January 1, 2007 must meet new emissions specs. VW is still cranking out TDIs under the '06 tag until then, as demand is still very high for the TDIs. The one you saw was probably either already sold to someone, or had been presold and the deal fell through. In either case, I bet it's not on the lot very long!

that's right. I talked to VWofA on the phone wondering why I saw a black diesel 06. They told me they are still building/shipping the TDIs this fall. Dealerships had their orders in ages ago and are just getting their last batches now.

Congrats on the new oil-burner! Now, go spend 20 hours a day for the next 6 weeks reading at www.tdi.club.com.

LOL, I'm a little ahead of you... I've spent the last 4 months trying to wade through all the information there. It literally makes my head spin. I tried to print out the break-in thread for my dh to read at home-- gave up after printing about 40 pages. Most of the info there is so technical, it makes me feel like they're speaking another language And, they all seem to disagree with each other on every issue! I never know who to believe. Think I'll stick to posting questions here on the org, where Antoine, Justin, James, Ron, and Des are my friendly TDI mods...

I heard the same line back in May. Last of the '06 NewBeetle TDIs. I got one back in May, I'm glad I did.

Interesting. GM did this with the Buick GN back in '87. I was able to purchase an '87 built in the '88 model year. Cool!

I guess that explains the black '06 diesel on another post.
