Other times they look like the sickest cars ever, so go figure. But still, why bulken things up!?
I agree.

However, most car companies add weight to their cars and bulk them up for ever-changing highway safety specs. North America, especially, has high standards for crash tests, etc. now and companies such as VW adhere to these rules so they can sell their cars in markets such as the US.

And this is why we have no car brands over here in the US that originated from China since their cars don't tend to withstand crash tests.

...Yadda Yadda.

I thought VW WAS working on a 2-seater already. I think it's called the Blue Sport or something like that. It's based on a Concept they had a few years ago? I think.

Seriously. Why do manufacturers constantly try and make vehicles something they were never intending to be? My guess is probably the car magazines. They're always giving a car a bad right up if it doesn't fit what they'd like to see.

SO many articles about cute utes they rip on because they don't have a V6, or three rows of seats. Who is buying a SMALL SUV and expecting 3 rows of seats? And those can easily handle a 4 cylinder! Heck, even Toyota went back to putting a 4 cylinder in the 5th gen 4Runner that just came out!

The NB isn't supposed to be a family car. Never was. That's like adding a backseat to a 370z.
That is so spot-on Pete Let the beetle be a beetle. Your post kinda reminded me of that thread a while back, where someone wanted the beetle to have a 3rd door, kinda like that saturn Ion.

Good post mang

I agree, let the Beetle be a Beetle. There are so many cars to choose from.

I saw that on the Vortex. I kinda dig the yellow one.

If it looks even similar to that, with a 2.0t, Hopper could be in trouble.

I agree Pete! I'd rock that Yellow one too! I know this is an artists rendition, but of all the ones out there, It would be nice to see this one come to fruition.

And Pete....Nooooooo, don't get rid of Hopper. Just add another nB to your stable

If they could just put the TDI back in the lineup or pull out the diesel/electric they promised with the Concept1 - I'd add another to the stable. Totally kill the hood and Ragster style it out!

I like that yellow one too. I am really curious how they will change the roofline to create more headroom in the back.

I like the yellow one, too; especially the more slanted, oval headlights.

I'm a bit iffy with both of those concepts. I think I would have to see one in person to really make up my mind about it :x

No worries. Hopper won't go anywhere. I think he's a keeper for life.

They've actually done a retro Microbus design. They thought of doing it, but later decided to drop it. There are pics and threads all over about it.

As for the Routan, that one would be more difficult. Keep in mind, the Routan is a Dodge Caravan. VW just adds their touches to it. I would think it's a bit more difficult to make a completely retro design out of a vehicle who's platform you don't even own.

I'd like to see a Space Up! 3/4 size retro Microbus in 2014. If long enough with all the seats folded down (except the drivers), I'm envisioning a small camper for one: Me!

can you show me some pics? i've seen the Microbus concept but it didn't remind me of the Bug at all it reminded me of a Vanagon haha even tho i still love Vanagons. and true for the routan, i think it was a smart thing of VW to do. cause the Dodge van platform is a good one. i was thinking though a van that uses design cues from the New Beetle. it would be funny if they tried to build a van off the current GTi/Beetle platform to pay homage to the old idea, but theres to much stuff like plastics and airbags and such.. the old Bus was a tin shell haha

The Microbus concept wasn't supposed to remind you of a Beetle.

It was supposed to remind of you a VW Microbus.

hrm. Not bad looking, I think. I think I could warm to the idea of it. Too bad my German is very rusty and I could only understand simple words here and there, or else I'd love to know what the page was talking about besides whats coming up in what years and the mk7 golfs, lol.
