Info is very sparse and I suspect it's all speculation.

Summary (not direct translation):

Next Beetle will come around April 2012 and the Cabrio in Spring of 2012. Styling will be more masculine and reflecting some of the original Beetle's lines. It will have a bigger trunk. (wow!!!) Powertrain options include: Gas (1.2L, 1.6L); Diesel (2.0L with 3 different outputs). The top (strongest) motor will be the GTI's 2.0L Turbo with DSG transmission. For Retro fans tires with white trim will be available.

Doesn't say which platform it'll be on but looks like Mk6 since the Mk7 arrives in 2013. Not in the article but for the US, I think VW will offer the Diesel 2.0L, Gas 2.0L Turbo and the current 2.5L.

I hope this is the actual Bug. It looks like it could ripple the pavement taking off. Also, I hope it gets the 4 engine choices the new Jetta is coming to the States with: the 2L TDI, 2L TSFI, 1.4L Twin Charger, and the ubiquitous 2.5L pig.

Although these are artists renditions, I hope they go with either one of these drawings, hopefully the silver pic.

I LOVE this one! This looks very much like the Type 1 prototypes Ferdinand Porsche was working on in the mid-1930's.

they shouldn't make beetle look like PT Cruisers there are plenty of cars that look alike. Beetle have broken that no one try to copy the beetle even when it was gone for about 20 or so years so why kill it now??? VW should be proud to have a unique car that stands out i know i am

Probably not. The first one is an artists rendering that's been out for awhile. The second one is actually the Roadster, that VW did about 5 years ago, to give us a hint at the current New Beetle. Other than the roofline, that's the New Beetle that's on the market right now.

If we do get to see it in January at the Detroit Auto Show then by fall of 2011 it should be in showrooms... funny where have I heard/read this before... hmmmm

I agree with Tom and Pete.

Until we get the official word from VWoA (not a salesman or spectulative artists renderings and rumors), we're just gonna have to wait and see, as well as not to get too enamored with non-VW intel.
