I like it. There's no sense of hoping that the nB3 will be like the 98-10 nB's- we might as well get used to that fact and try and embrace what's coming down the pike.

With that being said, for me, the above pic is the most palatable for me. Granted this is an artist rendition and not VWoA gospel, so we'll have to wait and see what they offer. Anyhoo, the lines are close enough that they say beetle. This pic looks like the yellow rendition (not the ragster) a few posts back.

and i ran the french through Google Translate- here it is....

With its curvaceous look, the future Beetle remains unmistakable. But with higher proportions râblées, wider track and lowered roof line, it will claim a certain sportiness.

The trunk of the future Beetle is intended to be both larger and more accessible.

Tail lights are funky, but I could live with that. I also wonder now if VW will offer the old 2.0 engine as they will in the Jetta VI as a "no frills" option.

And one more thing....I'd like to see the 2006+ flattened fenders go away and return to those of 2005 and earlier. I notice the red rendering has nice ROUNDED fenders.....

The car and driver spy photos of the new beetle have been seen by a member of the Socal New Beetle Club. He drives car transporters and has seen the car up close. Engines available normal 2.5, a 200hp and a TDI. Will be on the same platform as the Jetta. Available in Sept 2011 as 2012 year model.

Well tomorrow is the 30th, and looks like this info isn't coming to fruition.

Again, VW keeps us guessing.

As stated a few posts back, there's supposed to be "the big reveal" in November.... We'll see

I would say it would more likely be on the MK6 Golf platform rather than the larger NCS platform that the 2011 Jetta is riding on.

I have always found it bizarre how VW is handling this issue. The Beetle is what defines Volkswagen, yet they keep us guessing until practically the last minute as to what the NB 2 will look like. And so much so that there are still many who aren't 100% convinced that there will even BE a NB 2. In fact, as recently as the Sep 2010 issue, Car and Driver said the Beetle was dead! This was around the same time I got a letter from VW Corporate saying that there WILL be a NB 2.

Here's the difference a few years can make: When VW unveiled the Concept One back in 1994, we got a 4-year preview of what basically became the New Beetle. Now, we MIGHT see the succesessor in a couple of months, which will be less than a year before it is said to go into production. Even VW salespeople don't know what's going on.

Maybe other auto manufacturers have done likewise, but of course my focus (and likely everyone else's on here) is on the Beetle. One would think that VW surely must realize that we want to know NOW.

Agreed- The nB is what defines Volkswagen. In spite on how hard they try with their "punch dub" advertising, it can't redefine the nB as being what most non-vw people define as the face of VW.

You missed a key piece of info from the post you quoted. The post said it would be available Sept 2011. Not 2010. So while it's September 30th, that information states it would be out a year from now, not this year.

I agree 100% on how frustrating it is for us who love the NB, and who want to see what's in store next. But from a manufacturer's point of view, I can understand why they keep things tight lipped.

Giving info about a possible new model, yeah, they can give you that info YEARS in advance. But to push out info on it's replacement, that's a trickier business. They want to keep selling what's on the lots now (i.e. the existing NB). They don't want people seeing the next gen and thinking, "WOW! That's what I want", and then have their current inventory sitting on the lot because no one wants to buy it.

All manufacturers do the same thing. That's why most of the time, what you find online are spy shots. All manufacturers try to keep those pictures hidden as long as possible, because it can definitely affect the sales of the model currently for sale. To give hints about a new generation, even possible engine choices, models, yeah, they'll let some of that out. But when it comes to pictures, that can really cause people to decide to hold out on making a purchase.

And let's face it, a bird in the hand is worth two in a bush. They'd rather sell what they have on lots right now, than have people holding out for something that won't be out for another year or two.

This is one of the most appealing guesses in my opinion to date. I've heard things like fresh and daring being thrown around and to me the PT Cruiserish concept and the others were either not something I would describe using those two words, or so close to the current model that I wouldn't even consider shifting my plans to acquire a current New Beetle.

However, these ideas hit me just right. I want a car that looks happy, that would make me smile back at it, that was not shaped the way other cars were, and that were unique. I love the face of these concepts. The bubbly rear end is reminiscent of current designs, but somehow it doesn't bother me. I liked that a 4-door model appears to have the suicide rear door.

I just really enjoyed looking at these cars, so thanks for the link!

This is probably my least favorite design. The front end is very cool, but the back end is too hatchback-ish; reminds me of the kind of hatchback Hyundai was putting on their early toy cars. Bleah ...

Below are my two favorite concepts for the NB2:

Being a sci-fi loverI like the yellow one because it is just a more aerodynaimc/futuristic version of the NB. Reminds me of the kind of thing you'd see in Minority Report.

The red ... well, i just think it looks cool and I don't get all the "PT Cruiser" comparisons. Just because the two vehicles have flat tops doesn't make them similar at all.

If you're talking about the following pic, I totally agree. For me, it has no distinguishing characteristics that say "I'm a new beetle". To me, this style, albiet an artist rendition/concept, looks like something that would quickly grow long in the tooth and would undergo a quickly refreshed/redone design. At least with our current nB's (even the '06-11), the style has endured for over a decade.

So yeah I agree, the following ain't working for me either.
