Default 2008 tintop beetles on available in 3 colors?

i am on VWs site right now, building a beetle (just for fun, not buying one!) and i see the hard top only comes in three (boring) colors. is this true?

i see the 'vert is available in many colors.

what's going on?

i also don't see a diesel beetle on there anywhere...

am i just behind on some news here?

There's no apostrophe before an 's' when you're talking about the plural version of a word. "I took some neat photo's!" is NOT correct.

They will not announce the diesel until they have all of their approvals from the EPA, etc. It may be a mid year release.

It's doubtful they will even offer a diesel for '08. It will not have foglights, homelink or leather either. I guess with an all new Beetle on the way for '09 they are going to put as little effort into the '08 model as possible. It looks like the Beetle we've known these past ten years is going out with a whimper rather than a bang.

That's a sad way to put it, but the bang at the end of a car's production run is it's successor.

Nope.

I'm just saying that no model ever goes out with a bang. It's normally the brand new model that does the model justice. Why do anything crazy to an old car? I wouldn't even consider spending the amount of money they want for NB's now. It's a MK4, old technology.

Me either and I think that's what I find the most upsetting. I like to buy cars VW Certified used with a warranty, but it will take years for cars that haven't even been released yet to start trickling in used. I have a feeling I'll be driving a GTI for a few years before coming back to the Beetle. I'll always keep my 2000 though, she's my baby.

I've heard rumors that they are only going to offer the new TDI in 3 vehicles. The Tourag and I can't remember what else. Rabbit is not included in that, or the Beetle. Not sure if its true but its what I've heard.

I would assume that VW may be taking the same strategy as Honda. Honda already has developed its own diesel technology, cleaner than anything else out on the street and reportedly able to meet Calif emission requirements now. Word has it that they will introduce diesel powered vehicles nationwide in 2009 once they get CARB Certification from Calif. I'd lay some odds VW also wants to get its diesel certified by CARB for Calif before it brings it back as well....Calif is VW's largest sales center, which would also validate my reasoning to have their diesel available everywhere....evenmoreso due to Calif having one of the highest gasoline prices in the nation.

The Touareg, Tiguan and Jetta for starters though hopefully more will follow in the future.

Their naming convention for the two models makes no sense.

You get a choice between two models. New Beetle (this is the base model, only available in Black, Harvest Moon Beige and Platinum Grey). And the 2.5L.

Um. Considering the ONLY engine available is the 2.5L, why would you use that as your differentiation of models? Stupid, stupid, stupid.

The new diesels are 50-state certified and should begin appearing in 2008. The New Beetle will not be getting one however.

Just rumors until there is an official announcement...

First completely new Beetle in 10 years.
Rear wheel drive.
Small 3-cylinder engine in the back like the original Beetle.
No power steering.

... it is being designed as an entry-level economy car

I haven't seen any news about any automaker having a diesel approved for the 2008 model year in Calif....doesn't mean it won't happen, but I have also yet to see anything on the CARB website for any passenger car diesels that have been certified for 2008 as well. If they apppear in 2008 as 2009 models that would answer my question. CARB doesn't show any 2009 model year certification approvals.
