Mein iCar - VW and Apple discuss cooperation

German carmaker Volkswagen and US computer company Apple are discussing the possibility of producing a car together.

“The two companies are in the early stages of talks,” a VW spokesman told German magazine Capital.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs and Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn met several days ago in California to discuss the potential cooperation. The development of a so-called “iCar” could follow, the magazine said.

Through market analysis, experts estimate that a compact car upgraded with Apple products would be of great interest to young target groups, Capital said.

Volkswagen of America and Apple have hooked up before. In 2003, new Beetle buyers in the United States were given a complimentary Apple iPod as part of a "Pods Unite" promotion.

Why not? Apple makes incredible looking products. Besides, this has been exaggerated. They would be working on controls and interface design with them not designing a car for them.

'cause 1) i'd never be able to afford it because it would cost twice what all other cars do and 2) i'd probably have to install iTunes on it just to be able to listen to my music.

It would have all kinds of useless software and touchscreens... more things to distract drivers and cause accidents.

Give us the Polo, or work on improving cars already in your lineup.
