Default NBC RSi spotted!

Flipping through the pages of the October issue of Volkswagen Driver magazine, I found an article on the VW factory and museum tour. Of course the article included pics and I spotted a NBC RSi! I took a pic with my cell, which isn't very good at all, but you get the idea.

I was fortunate to have been able to visit Autostadt and the VW Museum this time last year. The NBC in the museum was a total surprise to me, I'd seen New Beetle Sunshine Tour photos of the blue NBC with the RSi / Cup kit fitted but to find this one was something else. As you'd expect, the build quality was perfect using all the correct parts. The engine and seats were from an R32 just to bring it up to date. Enjoy the photos, I have a few more detail shots if these aren't enough for everyone.

Thanks for the considerably better pics! It looks like this was kind of a .:R32 NBC rather than a NBC RSi because it doesn't appear to have even close to the same level of modifications that the RSi has. Also, I'm curious why only 225 PS out of the 3.2 VR6 when everywhere else it makes 250.

I seem to recall it was only 2wd but came with the bigger ventilated rear brake discs from the 180bhp Bora. Maybe the drop in power output was due to a restrictive exhaust system? Only one outlet at the back and maybe space restrictions up front compromised the exhaust manifold? Still, it looked good but a shame that someone wasn't enjoying it out on the roads.

Getting to everything on the inline engine is difficult, I can't imagine getting at the guts of a V6.

The only 6 I've seen in person had the battery in the trunk. But I did see room to get at least half a hand into the engine bay!

This has been around 4ever, I posted a pic of it years ago. Pretty sweet, I really thought VW would produce it for the US, but noooo.

VR6 in a regular NB? This is how it looks.

Slighty OT but still related - an R32 engine a New Beetle Cup car driven by Darren "Basher' Blumson over here in the UK

Goes like a greased rocket and he will be further developing the set up over the winter in readiness for the '08 season

Looks mean, dirty, but mean.

Of course the Rsi has a V6 too.

Yeah, but only a little V6, a whole 400cc smaller than the R32s 3.2 litres

I could be wrong, but didn't HPA Motorsports put out a beetle with a twin turbo R32, with about 530 HP. Must be some room to add 2 turbos? Oh Yeah 4 motion too!

Yeah, a vert and an 'Rsi' which actually started it's life as a TDI.

Tight rims and cool front/back bumpers! That would be awesome to drive.

I visited Wolfsburg in October, and also got to see this beautiful car! It was crammed in between two other NBs, as the exhibit gets changed around like any other museum. I checked underneath, and it was front-wheel drive. Also, it did not have the cool separate speedometer and tach pod that the hardtop RSi has. I'll be posting some pics of Wolfsburg soon!

Yeah, it's nice, but it's a custom blend of different things: RSi bodykit, exhaust, wheels and steering wheel plus R32 seats, shifter and possibly engine. It's weird how they painted just the grab bar ends.

I wonder what ever happened to the RSi Concept car?

There was also a real RSi in the museum, along with Concept 1 and the Kamei Beetster II. I PROMISE I'll post pics. I'm picking up the latest pics of my car today (and I got the negatives scanned), and I'll have to spend an hour or two posting pics of my trip to Wolfsburg...
