Wrong. It's a VW Saveiro. VW makes all kinds of crazy cars in Brazil, this is one of them.

yup. i've seen that posted in the fox section of the vortex. It's kinda funny that it still has a conterflow 8v and the engine bay still looks really fox-y.

In the early '80s and late 70's, VW sold a unibody truck in the USA. It was a diesel, used the same motor as the diesel Rabbit of the same vintage.
I have seen a few of them around, even now. I wonder how many miles they have?

There's a guy around here that buys up those diesel pickups, does a TOTAL re-con, then sells them in Alaska for a verrry pretty penny...

I had a teacher back in HS, let's not say how long ago, who ended up driving one of them back in the 70s. He loved it and it was a nice sized pickup. Don't forget that the Indian Tractor company, Mahindra, is just about ready to launch a line of low cost, diesel pickups in the US. It'll be interesting to see how a pickup made in India sells in the heartland of the US.

Saw one of the old VW pickups today. It had a campershell. Some are still running, and with the price of fuel, more and more will be dug out of barns and garages and put back on the road.
