Question VW In Tennessee

I just heard on our local news (Nashville) tonight that VW is looking to build a manufacturing plant in the US and Tennessee is in the top three choices!!

The other two choices are Alabama and Michigan.

I don't know which one they choose but I hope its here in Mid TEnn area ...That would be cool ...I would'nt think Mich would be a choice cause of the big three being there...but who knows..Just glad they are building a plant ... been a long time since the jersey plant shut its doors.

Well with the big three laying off a substantial, all ready trained work force, I can see why VW would consider it; however I'm rooting for TN, and looking forward to that "Big Orange" color concept car...

Yeah that would be the only reason i would think they would go there.. But it may cost them more in the end if the auto unions sink their teeth in em. All the more reason to move down here LOL.I would love it if they would redesign the ol air cool motor to epa standards and bring up the presses from mexico to make the old beetle again... Seeing how the production just ended in 03 of the old style beetle. I know just wishful thinkin>>>>

IMO it'd be awesome if VW took over one of the closing ford/GM plants, as that will provide jobs to the people who've lost theirs due to the aforementiond plant closures.

I didn't look @ the article posted, but they did say on the local Detroit news we're out of the running... Probably b/c our trained workforce is too expensive...

Default New VW Plant

Any of us old enough to remember Westmoreland Pa plant? Remember the lousy build quality of the Rabbits? I owned two built in Pa and they were junk. Hope VW keeps a tight rein on quality in Tenn. Just my 2 cents...

I'm interested to see as well; I do not think that any car made more than 15-20 years ago was made well. When I first went car shopping (77 on) on my own the standard warranty was 12 months 12,000 miles and on some it was not even bumper to bumper.

Never had a Rabbit, my first was a '75 Dasher; second was an '81 Isuzu (aka Chevy Luv) 4WD truck.
