That would go well with my dad's 87 Scirocco 16V!

I have also heard it talked about as the new Corrado. I wonder which name they will actually release it as, or if they will simply take on a new name.

I thought it was going to be called the Rivo. 1.4 TSI and 2.0 TDI as base engines. The GTI will be much more powerful of course.

That's very doubtful, at least here in the US. The Corrado and Scirroco were always considered more of a "Sports Car" when compared to the GTI, which is considered a "Hot Hatch".

Last I heard, they expected this vehicle to get the 3.6l V6 and probably 4Motion.

You would never see such a sports car here in the US with a TDI engine.

That was a long time ago though. Times have changed. It's said they will offer the new 1.4 TSI twincharger as an entry-level engine. I believe the new 2.0 TDI is also a twincharger. Both provide 170hp with the TDI having a tremendous amount of torque. The new 2.0 TDI should meet the US emissions standards by late 2007 which would be in time for the 2008 model year introduction. I'd say there is a fair chance of us getting a 2.0 TDI version while the 1.4 TSI and 3.6 V6 are probably a lock. They could use the 2.0 FSI instead of the 2.0 TDI but I don't think there would be any point in doing so. The 2.0 TDI would be a true alternative to the other two engines and have the unique postion as a performance diesel.

Well, I still would not bet any money on VW offering a TDI in the new Scirroco/Corrado. Have you ever seen a TDI in a GTI?

This vehicle is definitely geared above the GTI. This is not an entry level vehicle.

The American market, while starting to change their opinion on diesels, is still not a big market for these engines. You will not see that type of engine in a "Sports" car, anytime soon.

Yes. But, they were only sold in Europe as far as I know. Golf GTI TDI 150hp. It's been done.

Here is my bit of doom and gloom..

1) IF they do build it, will it come to the states?
2) I am very sceptical of the dual charger setup. It has been tried time and time again and never with good results.
Biggest problem is the Supercharger is still going to be producing boost even after the turbo kicks in. So , you will still have the parasidic power loss of the charger.
either go straight Supercharger and turbo and accept the pro's\con's of each.

I would love them to bring the Rocco back.. Loved my 86 16V..
I want to keep the Corrado being the best car that flopped VW produced...seeing I have one

As for performance from a deisel... It has been done.. THere is a NHRA category specificly for diesel trucks.. Change the rev limiter and boost it enough..away you go , but so goes the good gas milage.. My nephew has a Expidition with the 7.4 Powerstroke.. Full Banks kit.. It is insaine how fast that huge truck is, but I think a 74 Caddy Deville gets better milage.

As for the US market... Anyone ever heard of a good <3 liter diesel engine form the US???
None... there all from europe.

Also, here is more from a S.A website http://www.wheels24.co.za/Wheels24/N...829086,00.html

That's only because our diesel fuel has not been up to par with what they have in Europe. That is going to change soon. I doubt they would only stick one engine in it. The TDI might be a longshot but the 1.4 TSI is a good possibility. It's got a very sporty character and is available in two versions.

I never quite understood the difference between the Sciroco and Corrado. To me, it seemed that the Sciroco went away at precisely the same time that the Corrado rolled out... in effect, the Corrado was the new, updated Sciroco. I just never understood why they changed the name.

Anybody remember the old Sciroco commercial? With the two men riding their camels in the sands of the Arabian desert... then one turns to the other in fear and yells "SCIROCO!!!!" (which is the word for the desert windstorms) and they start galloping to get away... and it turns out, of course, that they're not running from the windstorm at all but from a car zooming across the sand. It left a great impression... even to this day.

Anyway... I like the updates in the new renderings. Nice!
