I just posted on the Mini Thread how mini is literally getting a full lineup of vehicles! Then i thought, could Vw possibly do the same?

Some picture ideas:

In order from top to bottom:
Beetle Coupe
Beetle Convertible
Beetle Suv (Edag Biwak Concept)
Beetle Truck
Dune Buggie (dune bug concept)
Beetle Wagon (Artist Drawing)
Beetle Roadster
Beetle Sports Convertible (Porsche Boxter)
Mini Bug (Vw Beetle UPp City Car)

I mean, with vw bring the slow selling Phaeton back to the USA, they may have a chance with beetles!

Keep in mind, Mini really, just has the Mini. So they're just kind of making as many models out if it as they can.

VW & Audi, already have quite a few models based on the same platform. Jetta, Golf, GTI, New Beetle (although, still MKIV while the others are now MKV), Audi TT.

Mini is expanding it's lineup, but still calling them different models of the Mini. Where most manufacturers actually call their models something different.

Since the NB is already considered a niche product, and one of their lower sellers, I just can't imagine VW expanding the lineup even more, making versions that would sell even less.

Don't you mean others are Mk6? I''m officially angry at VW for letting the Beetle languish so long on the old chassis. They could REALLY reinvigorate it if they would just put it on the next chassis.

True, forgot those are already trickling in. And I agree with you. I hope the NB continues on and can be moved to a more modern platform.

Exactly! Mini is a brand owned by BMW. The Cooper is a model as are the Cooper Clubman and upcoming Crossman.

I agree, the NB isn't their best selling model, but it is quite an old design. from 1998-2010 so far. I also doubt vw could do too much more with its retroesque design too. Probably something still round themed, less tall, and more curves or character lines.

Oh and I agree with Farris too! Vw has let this car age on, but thankfully the city golf, city jetta, and perhaps the touran still share the mk4 platform, so its not completely by itself. I'm sure that once vw pulls the plug on the City models, that will be the end of the nb too.

If they change the design, they need to stop calling it a Beetle. The Beetle needs to look like a bug. If they change it, just change the name. I am glad I got my 2009 in case they decide to mess up the design. Adding other cars and names is fine, but the look is a Beetle. No other car is like it.

Yep, I agree. And, if they change it, I will never have the chance to own a brand new one, because, if they change it, I will never buy anything newer than a 2009. I like the beetle because it is a Bug, plain and simple.

VW isn't stupid. I wish I knew why people think VW would change the design. The current NB shares only a basic shape with the original, but there's no question what it is.

There are hundreds of vehicles that have been redesigned many many times over the years, but you still know exactly what they are.

VW already has a sedan, a Hatch, a hot hatch, convertibles, etc., why on Earth would they change the design of the NB so that it's no longer a Beetle?

If they do move it to a new platform, which I hope they do, it will keep the same design idea of the Original and New Beetle. They aren't going to make it something completely different and keep the NB name.

The shape is important. I know they made changes, just keep the Beetle look.

From what we're all hearing, the vehicle is getting a pretty drastic redesign. I'm not a huge fan from what I've seen(The borrowed ideas from the ragster concept), but whatever.

Rumors included that there'd once again be a diesel beetle though. That alone is something worth getting a little excited over.

I'm a little confused by that. The Ragster concept was really done to show off the new fenders / bumpers / etc. of the current NB. So other than the roofline, the current body style of the NB, matches that of the Ragster.

Also, dash-board redesign, smaller dash is proposed, more headroom for backseat, etc. It'll be built on the new jetta's chassis so it will be a tad wider and longer. EDIT: just to not look ignorant, as far as I know, all that info is rumored. VW hasn't committed to anything yet.
