It doesn't come with a clutch but has a five speed automatic with tiptronic (SP).

Default Gas Guzzler?

I drive a 2010 Final Edition Convertible. It gets 27-28 miles to gallon. It that a guzzler?

Many VWs switched to the 5-cyl 2.5 a few years back, and it never ceases to amaze me how people can call them "gas guzzlers" when they are only rated 1 mpg less efficient than the 2.0 four it replaced! As a whole VWs gas engines could stand to be more economical. A Toyota Corolla, for example, gets 35 with an auto and 38 with a stick. However, the old VW 2.0 got 30-31 with auto/stick respectively, and the 2.5 gets 28/29. What's the big deal? Why does everybody hate the 2.5? A couple of less miles per gallon would equate to maybe an additional $100 a year in fuel costs. And that's assuming you drive 15,000 miles a year! Less than 10 bucks a month...So what? Plus, you get 35 more horsepower to boot.

On another note, I hate to say it, but stickshifts are a dying breed. I once insisted on sticks as well, but the tiptronic is an awesome transmission, too, and automatics are MUCH easier to find; at least on this side of the Pond. As a result, I no longer care if my VWs are manual or automatic. I'll go with whichever ones are the best deal.

Technically, the DSG transmission comes with two clutches. You just don't have access to either of them.

I've come to find the 2.5 does astronomically better for the car, especially considering the beating that little 2.0 took on highway mileage with a 5-speed. You'll probably get the same gas mileage, if not better, highway on the 2.5.

However, a 2.0 Turbo 6-speed "Wolfsburg Edition" beetle, that'd be mighty nice. Especially in red-rock exterior with the sport suspension...beetle gli much?

For its size, I do think the NB is a gas guzzler. I'm lucky if I get 22-23 mpg. Think about back in the 80s. Gas crisis comes along, the government forces better gas mileage standards. Lots of cars were getting better and better gas mileage back then.

Here we are 30 years later, and a little car the size of the NB gets what it gets. Granted, it's heavier than the small cars back then. But still. With 30 years of advancements, you'd think they could do better.

I think a lot of the gas mileage problems you experience on the VW beetle have less to do with the engine size of the car, or even the curb weight, and more to do with the fact that aerodynamically, there's no logic to the vehicle. The 2010 honda civic weighs more than the 2010 beetle, (barely) puts out similar horsepower (140, compared to the beetle's 150) with less displacement (1.8 inline 4 vs. 2.5 inline 5) and gets better mileage. Although I suppose I haven't taken gear ratios and whatnot into account, but I'd venture to say that a civic being aerodynamically superior plays its part.

In which case, you'd be asking for the beetle to have an overdramatic body restyle.

I used to own beater-camaros, so when people cry about getting 22+ to the gallon, I kind of chuckle.

I have yet to see in person but I bet the two tone paint looks stunning in person. With summer around the corner the car should sell fast especially with discount.

I like the two tone, but the white canvas top scares the heck out of me. ( well that AND the white interior)
the one at Keffer even had a "take me home for $299/mo" tag on it ( betting that was a lease)
It would be tempting that is for sure!

I don't think the top is white, at least not according to this guy YouTube - 2010 VW Beetle Convertible Boston Braintree MA 2184
but then he also says it has '200 horsepower'

and this one has only 170 hp YouTube - 2010 VW Beetle Convertible available at Southern States VW in Raleigh, NC!!

I still hold to my opinion that the red-rock owns the FE beetle vert.

Jusy got our NB FE convertible. It is #1001. The top is black but comes with the white convertible top cover. If someone wants a white top (or any other color) they can take it to the Karmann production facilities in Plymouth Michigan. The have a group called Karmann Classics. They do top retorations and replcaments on VW's. Nice thing is that it's a "Factory" replacement. I believe the top replacemnt is around 3K for a NB.

scrawnyirishboy-> Aren't you a salesman? A VW salesman? You should know your product better. All slushbox beetles get awful MPG. I drive a 98 5 speed gasser with 117K and do 75 MPH on the highway and get 32-34 MPG on the tank. Every tank. I put 120 miles a day on my car. My sister drives a 02 slushbox and has never seen more than 26 MPG. I could probably see 38 MPG like the corolla if I drove her like a grandma. You show me any slushbox that will get my tank MPG and I'll switch mine right away.
